The object of the present invention is to reduce interference and power consumption of a repeater operated in a wireless communication network. According to the present invention this object is achieved by a self-optimizing repeater () for use in a wireless communication network using predetermined carrier communication resources per cell. The self-optimizing repeater () comprises an amplifier () adapted to amplify a first subset of communication resources selected from, the carrier communication resources, a monitoring unit () adapted to monitor traffic load on the first subset of communication resources, and an adjustment unit () adapted to adjust the first subset of communication resources as a function of the monitored traffic load. The operation of the self-optimizing repeater is fully transparent and no control signaling is necessary to control the self-optimizing repeater.

Self-optimizing repeater

A radio repeater includes a first analyzer (B) adapted to determine a time slot schedule. It also includes means (A) for receiving control messages including uplink/downlink amplification requests for time slots in the determined schedule. A second analyzer (A) is adapted to extract the uplink/downlink amplification requests from the received control messages. A control unit () is adapted to turn the uplink and downlink amplification on/off during the time slots depending on the extracted amplification requests.

Radio repeater controllability

A method and arrangement in a first mobile terminal () for determining allocation of radio resources for DMO communication amongst a group of mobile terminals. M the first mobile terminal, a first determining moduledetermines a communication (Sout, Sin) with a second mobile terminal () of the group. A second determining module () determines a resource element (RE) for communication by applying a predefined cryptographic function P based on a terminal identification (K)). The cryptographic function has been configured in the mobile terminals of the group to provide terminal-specific resource elements for different mobile terminals within respective radio frames. A communication module () then communicates with the second mobile terminal (), either by transmission or reception of the data, on the determined resource element (RE).

Method and arrangement for resource allocation in radio communication

Available bandwidth is divided into multiple sub-channels, and respective sub-bands containing one or more of these sub-channels are allocated to one or more users. A first frequency allocation is determined, and mathematical operators are used to determine at least one further frequency allocation from the first frequency allocation. A frequency hopping sequence is then determined, including the first frequency allocation, and the or each further frequency allocation. A network node may perform the allocation method, and a user equipment may operate using the allocated bandwidth.

In the context of a wireless communication network, relay-based communication is provided. In particular, a relay node () comprises a receiver () configured to receive a signal representative of a message transmitted from an originating node and intended for a destination node, wherein a transmission from an interference source causes interference in the received first signal. The relay node () also comprises an interference detector () configured to detect interference from the interference source in the received signal and which part of the message that is affected by the interference, called the interfered part of the message, and a forwarding unit () configured to perform a partial retransmission based on the interfered part of the message to the destination node.

Amplification in the repeater is activated as a response to an existence of the radio signaling and uplink and/or downlink traffic is amplified.

Method and apparatus for controlling the activation of an amplifier arrangement in a repeater device disposed in a radio communication system

An object of the present invention is to provide a mechanism for controlling a repeater that is less costly and more flexible. The objective is achieved by a method in a control unit () for controlling a repeater () being comprised in a radio access network (). The control unit sends a repeater control message to the repeater (). The repeater control message is tunneled as ordinary data communication via an available radio communication channel () within the radio access network (). The repeater control message is configured to control the repeater ().

Method and arrangement to control a repeater in a wireless communication system

One method for controlling operation of a repeater in radio communication system comprises determination whether operation of a node in the radio communication system benefits from assistance of a repeater and transmitting, from the node in the radio communication system, a radio signal to the repeater being indicative of an order to promptly activate the repeater if the benefit exists. One complementary method for controlling operation of a repeater in radio communication system comprises detection (), in the repeater, of a radio signal being indicative of an order to activate the repeater. Amplification in the repeater is activated () as a response to such a detected radio signal and uplink traffic from a user terminal being located in a vicinity of the repeater and/or downlink traffic to the user terminal is amplified (). A repeater, a node, a user terminal and a system operating according to the method are presented.

Adaptive radio repeaters

Systems and methods of cell selection are based on measures of frequency selectivity, time selectivity, and/or antenna selectivity. For example, the delay spread and coherence bandwidth of a channel are two measures of frequency selectivity that can be taken into account in the cell selection process. In addition to or instead of either delay spread or coherence bandwidth, Doppler frequency shift or coherence time (which are two measures of time selectivity) and/or antenna correlation or mean signal strength per antenna (which are two measures of antenna selectivity), among other parameters, can be determined and taken into account.

Efficient cell selection

According to the invention a receiving end terminal (RET) enters a delay mode based on the detecting of the quality of the link being lower than a threshold. In this delay mode, the receiving end terminal provides a reception delay indicator (RDI) for a sending end terminal (SET). The sending end terminal (SET) receives the reception delay indicator (RDI) and provides an end of speech indicator (ESI) for the receiving end terminal (RET) at an end of a speech coding interval (SC). The receiving end terminal (RET) uses the reception delay indicator (RDI) and end of speech indicator (ESI) to define a first time interval (AL) during which a speech decoder is disabled. The speech decoder is again activated after the first time interval (AL).

Selection of radio resources in a radio communications network

A method for allocating power and channels to connections in a multi-channel access based wireless communication system in which each connection is acting independently of the other. The quality of each channel of a connection is measured at successive time steps (n, n+1). The measurements from a previous time step (n) are used to allocate, in the following time step (n+1), an average power of all channels the connection uses as well as individual power settings in-between said channels. The average power is controlled using an outer fairness loop balancing the average channel power against average bit rate per channel. The individual power settings is controlled using an inner capacity loop allocating much power to good channels and restricted power to poor channels. Each loop has a respective target relation and the results of the loops are combined in order to determine transmission power in the next time step. The method is of distributed character and may execute on individual receiving nodes. Further, it may be applied in the up link or in the down link.
