A personal electronic device includes a main body and an ear flip member coupled to the main body. The ear flip member includes a speaker assembly. The speaker assembly includes a housing including front and rear opposed surfaces spaced apart along a depthwise axis. A transducer is disposed in the housing between the front and rear surfaces and along each of the depthwise axis, a longitudinal axis extending perpendicular to the depthwise axis, and a transverse axis extending transverse to the longitudinal axis and perpendicular to the depthwise axis. The housing defines a tuned resonator volume therein and in fluid communication with the transducer. At least a portion of the tuned resonator volume is disposed laterally adjacent the transducer along at least one of the longitudinal and transverse axes. The ear flip member may be coupled to a main body of a personal electronic device.

Handheld radiotelephones are provided with battery packs that facilitate the transmission of a person's voice to internally mounted microphones. A radiotelephone housing end portion is provided with an aperture that is in acoustic communication with an internally mounted microphone. A passageway extends through a battery pack from a sound inlet in a front portion thereof to a sound outlet in an end portion thereof. The sound outlet is in acoustic communication with the aperture when the battery pack is removably secured to the housing end. Accordingly, the sound inlet is in acoustic communication with the microphone via the passageway.

In a method of controlling a vibrator, the vibrator is first driven towards a first frequency during a first interval and then is driven towards a second frequency during a second interval. In a preferred embodiment the first frequency is higher than the lowest resonance frequency of the vibrator and the vibrator is then allowed to reduce the frequency to a frequency lower than the resonance frequency. By letting the frequency vary in a pulsating manner in the vibrating device, the vibration can be sensed more easily by a human, and thereby making it possible to use a very small mass in the vibrating device, which therefore can be made using a small weight, while still making it possible to sense the vibration.
