A rotating cutting tool configured to rotate around an axis of rotation in a rotary direction, and a support pad for such a tool is disclosed. The support pad defines a central longitudinal axis and has a first longitudinal edge side, an opposite second longitudinal edge side, a first transversal edge side and an opposite second transversal edge side. The support pad includes a first support surface, which is convexly curved as viewed in a plane perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis and a first recess, which extends into the first support surface in a direction from the first longitudinal edge side towards the second longitudinal edge side. The first recess extends to a final position on the first support surface.

Rotatable drilling tool has an insert top detachably connectable to a basic body and at least one chip flute. In each cross-section, each chip flute has a depth equal to the difference between the radius of a cutting circle and a radius of a greatest possible core circle centered on the longitudinal axis and tangential to a limiting curve of the respective chip flute. The basic body is divided longitudinally into a coupling segment, extending axially rearward from a coupling end, and a transportation segment that is situated axially behind the coupling segment, extends rearward toward a fixing end, and is longer than the coupling segment. Each chip flute extends through the coupling segment and the transportation segment. At least essentially the entire female part is situated in the coupling segment, and each chip flute has a smaller depth in the coupling segment than in the transportation segment.

A rotatable tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body having front and rear ends between which there extends a first geometrical center axis, and a loose top having front and rear ends between which a second geometrical center axis extends. The front end of the basic body includes a jaw, which is delimited by two drivers and an intermediate bottom and in which a part of the loose top is received. A centering pin protrudes axially rearward from the loose top and is inserted in an axial center hole, which mouths in the bottom of the jaw and in which a threaded hole mouths for a screw co-operating with the center pin. The center hole includes a cylindrical support surface, which is concentric with the center axis of the basic body and against which the centering pin of the loose top is pressed by the screw.

A drill of the loose top type, which is composed of a basic body and a replaceable loose top. In the front end of the basic body, a jaw is formed, which is delimited by two elastically bendable branches and an intermediate axial support surface, and in which the loose top can be securely pinched by inner support surfaces of the branches being resiliently pressed against side contact surfaces of the loose top. The two side contact surfaces of the loose top extend rearward from clearance surfaces that are included in the front end of the loose top. By forming the diametrical dimension between opposite side contact surfaces greater nearer the front end of the loose top, the branches of the jaw securely pinch the loose top in the area of the front ends thereof, where the branches have their maximal bending capacity.

Drilling tool for chip removing machining as well as a loose top therefor

A rotatable tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body having front and rear ends between which a first center axis (C) extends around which the basic body is rotatable, and a loose top having front and rear ends between which a second center axis (C) extends. The front end of the basic body includes a jaw which is delimited by two torque-transferring drivers and an intermediate bottom in which a part of the loose top is receivable, and a center hole that mouths in the bottom of the jaw and has a hole wall which extends axially inside the basic body and in which a threaded hole mouths for a screw to co-operate with a centering pin that protrudes axially rearward from the loose top, the centering pin being insertable into the center hole. The centering pin has a cross-sectional area that is less than a cross-sectional area of the center hole. The centering pin includes two diametrically opposed surfaces, a first one of the surfaces forming a contact surface that extends tangentially between two axially running boundary generatrices which are situated along an imaginary circumscribed circle (S), the center of which coincides with the center axis (C) of the loose top, and between which an arc angle (&#x3b1;) is less than&#xb0;. The contact surface, via the boundary generatrices, transforms into a second one of the surfaces that is spaced-apart inwardly from the circumscribed circle (S).
