A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') comprises one or more switch devices and a charge storage circuit for delivering a stimulus signal via a deployed electrode. A charge may be stored in the charge storage circuit. A first switch device of the one or more switch devices may be selectively turned on according to the charge of the charge storage circuit. The stimulus signal may be delivered via a current flow path comprising the first switch device and the deployed electrode according to the charge of the charge storage circuit.

Methods and apparatus for a high voltage circuit

A warning system for a conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') may be configured to alert a target that deployment of the CEW may be imminent. The warning system may include a visual output system and an audio output system. The visual output system may be configured to output a visual warning. The audio output system may be configured to output an audio warning. The visual output system and the audio output system may be activated in response to a control interface of the CEW being operated to an active mode. The visual output system and the audio output system may be deactivated, or not activated, in response to the control interface being operated to a safety mode.

Warning system for a conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') may launch electrodes toward a target to electrically couple to the target. A CEW may include a signal generator, one or more electrodes, and a selector circuit. The signal generator may include a first conductor and a second conductor, wherein the first conductor has a positive potential and the second conductor has a negative potential. The signal generator may be configured to provide a stimulus signal through the first conductor and the second conductor. The selector circuit may be in electrical series between the signal generator and the one or more electrodes. The selector circuit may be configured to selectively electrically couple an electrode from the one or more electrodes to the first conductor or the second conductor of the signal generator.

Changing electrode polarity of a conducted electrical weapon

Magazines of conducted electrical weapons (CEW) comprise a set of magnetic elements having positions, polarities, and magnitudes corresponding to a type of magazine. The CEW uses sensors to detect an indicator magnet indicating that a magazine is inserted into a bay of the CEW. The CEW additionally uses sensors to detect information about the set of magnetic elements and determines, based on the detected information, a type of the magazine.

Detecting magazine types using magnets

A cartridge for a conducted electrical weapon may comprise a body having a first end opposite a second end and an outer surface opposite an inner surface. A cartridge inner assembly may be removably disposed within the body. The cartridge inner assembly may comprise a propulsion module, a plug, a piston, and/or a retaining clip. The cartridge inner assembly may be configured to cause deployment of an electrode. The electrode may be mechanically and electrically coupled to the piston.

Piston for deploying a projectile of a conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') impedes locomotion of a human target by providing a stimulus signal through the target via one or more electrodes. A propulsion system provides a force that launches the one or more electrodes toward the target to deliver the stimulus signal. The electrodes may be mechanically and electrically coupled to a deployment unit by a filament. An electrode may cooperate with a winding machine to wind the filament into a winding. The winding may be positioned inside the body of the electrode for deployment during launch.

Electrode for a conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') launches wire-tethered electrodes from one or more cartridges to provide a current through a human or animal target to impede locomotion of the target. The CEW may detect when the electrodes launched from the cartridges may provide the current through more than one target. The CEW may detect when electrodes launched from the cartridges may provide the current through the same target. The CEW may set the pulse rate of the current based on detecting the launch of electrodes from one or more cartridges, detecting that electrodes may provide the current through two or more targets, and/or detecting that two or more pairs of electrodes may deliver the current through the same target.

Providing pulses of stimulus signal between pairs of electrodes

A conducted electrical weapon may deploy a first electrode. Deploying the first electrode may include deploying fewer electrodes than a minimum number required by the conducted electrical weapon to provide the stimulus signal at a remote location. The first electrode may be deployed in response to a first activation signal of a plurality of activation signals. The conducted electrical weapon may deploy a second electrode in response to a second activation signal of the plurality of activation signals. A signal generator of the conducted electrical weapon may provide a stimulus signal between the first electrode and the second electrode.

Serial electrode deployment for conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') launches wire-tethered electrodes from multiple cartridges to provide a stimulus signal through a human or animal target to impede locomotion of the target. The CEW may detect the quality of the electrical coupling (e.g., connection) of pairs of electrodes with the target. In accordance with the quality of the connections, the CEW may provide pulses of a stimulus signal to the various connections between electrode pairs in accordance with a sequence. The sequence may provide pulses at a first maximum pulse rate to any one connection to increase the likelihood of inducing neuromuscular incapacitation (“NMI”) and to save energy. The sequence may provide pulses to all connections at a second maximum pulse rate to increase the likelihood of inducing NMI and to save energy.

Determining a quality of connection for a conducted electrical weapon

A deployment unit for use with a handle of a conducted electrical weapon ('CEW'). The deployment unit includes wire-tethered electrodes for launching toward a human or animal target for providing a current through the target to impede locomotion of the target. The deployment unit includes a barrier that prior to use with the handle protects the deployment unit from electrostatic discharge. Prior to use of the deployment unit, the barrier may further protect the deployment unit from ingress of dirt and/or moisture into the deployment unit. While the deployment unit is inserted into a handle, the barrier shields conductors of the handle and the deployment unit to facilitate delivery of a launch signal from the handle to the deployment unit to launch the wire-tethered electrodes.

A payload conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') may include a housing configured to house at least a plurality of electrodes and a signal generator. The payload CEW may be removably inserted into a bay of a launcher. The launcher may be mounted on a vehicle. The plurality of electrodes may be configured to be launched from the housing. The housing may be configured to be launched from the bay of the launcher simultaneously with or after the plurality of electrodes are launched. The signal generator may be configured to transmit a stimulus signal through the plurality of electrodes. The signal generator may be configured to transmit the stimulus signal before, during, and/or after the housing is launched.

Methods and apparatus for detecting a magnitude of a voltage at a face of a conducted electrical weapon ('CEW'). The magnitude of the voltage may be used to determine whether a pulse of a stimulus signal was delivered to a target. Structures for detecting the magnitude of the voltage may include structures that provide a stimulus voltage.

Methods and apparatus for detecting a voltage of a stimulus signal of a conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon may interchangeably receive a plurality of magazines. A magazine may be releasably engaged with a magazine bay of the conducted electrical weapon. Engagement of a magazine with the magazine bay may expose a bottom surface of the magazine. Each magazine may comprise a plurality of firing tubes. A magazine may be configured to launch at least one electrode from at least one firing tube of the plurality of firing tubes. A control circuit may be configured to provide an ignition signal to less than all of the plurality of firing tubes. A first pair of firing tubes may be oriented to achieve a minimum electrode spread at a first range. A second pair of firing tubes may be oriented to achieve a minimum electrode spread at a second range. The plurality of firing tubes may be arranged in an array comprising a column of firing tubes.

Polymorphic conducted electrical weapon

A unitary cartridge for a conducted electrical weapon (CEW) may include a cartridge body that stores an electrode, a piston, a propulsion module, and a propulsion module contact. To launch the electrode from the cartridge body, a signal may be sent from the CEW through a conductor disposed within the propulsion module. The signal may be configured to heat up the conductor and ignite a pyrotechnic material in the propulsion module to create a rapidly expanding gas. The rapidly expanding gas may move the piston to propel the electrode from the cartridge body and toward a target. A frangible cap may be disposed at one end of the cartridge body to retain the electrode in the cartridge body prior to launch.
