A method and system for managing radio resources in a time-slotted wireless communication system is based on the quality of service (QoS) information of a user. A plurality of time slots of a radio resource are sorted into a plurality of different categories, such as high QoS time slots, high capacity time slots, and balanced time slots. Each category is associated with a different level of QoS. QoS information with respect to a user is obtained in response to a radio resource request received from the user. The user is associated with a particular category of time slots based on the QoS information of the user.

One AP among the member APs of the CCG is designated as a master AP. The master AP coordinates with other member APs of the CCG for selecting and configuring the WDS channel for the CCG and addition and deletion of member APs. By allowing APs to define a CCG, changes of the WDS channel are performed autonomously while maintaining connectivity.

A method for operating a wireless mobile device moving through different types of networks includes storing within the wireless mobile device a type of network associated with a respective access node as the wireless mobile device moves through the different types of networks. A type of connectivity available for each access node is stored within the wireless mobile device, as well as location of each access node. The wireless mobile device is operated with a current access node corresponding to one type of network based on a current location of the wireless mobile device. Handoff is initiated by the wireless mobile device from the current access node to another access node corresponding to a different type of network based on movement of the wireless mobile device.

The present invention proposes an infrastructure to enable seamless mobility for wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs) and to provide for management of spectrum and network resources. An WMAN reference model is introduced where the radio resource management (RRM) and handover (HO) sub-layer is introduced into the protocol stack. The WMAN management plane is responsible for the RRM and HO management. Several physical and logical network architecture options for WMAN management are proposed.

A multi-node communication system and method used to request, report and collect destination-node-based measurements and route-based measurements is disclosed. The communication system may be a mesh network including a plurality of mesh points (MPs). In one embodiment, a destination-node-based measurement request is sent to one or more destination nodes via destination-unicast, destination-multicast, or destination-broadcast, using routes specified via next-hop-unicast, next-hop-multicast, or next-hop-broadcast addressing. In another embodiment, a source node sends a measurement request message to a final destination node, whereby each node along the route individually sends a measurement report message to the source node. Alternatively, measurement results of each node are combined and appended to the measurement request message, and a measurement report message including the combined measurement results is sent to the source node.

Multi-node communication system and method of requesting, reporting and collecting destination-node-based measurements and route-based measurements

A wireless communication system including at least one IEEE 802 multi-stack wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a plurality of technologically diversified access networks, such as IEEE 802.X networks and Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) networks, that are concurrently deployed. Wireless communication method and system for implementing media independent handover between technologically diversified access networks

A method for managing quality of service (QoS) in a wireless local area network begins by receiving a traffic flow. The traffic flow is mapped to a traffic class (TC), based on QoS requirements of the traffic flow. A transmission budget of an access class (AC) is calculated, each AC including at least one TC. A determination is made whether the traffic flow can be admitted, by calculating whether the transmission budget can support the traffic flow. If the traffic flow is admitted, the parameters of the TC are adjusted and collisions in the TC between existing traffic flows and the newly admitted traffic flow are managed.
