A shape-selective catalyst comprises a synthetic porous crystalline material having the structure of ZSM-5 and a composition involving the molar relationship: X O :(n)YO , wherein X is a trivalent element, such as aluminum, boron, iron and/or gallium, preferably aluminum; Y is a tetravalent element such as silicon and/or germanium, preferably silicon; and n is greater than about 12, and wherein the crystals have a major dimension of at least about 0.5 micron and a surface YO /X O ratio which is no more than 20% less than the bulk YO /X O ratio of the crystal. The crystals have a diffusion-modifying surface coating of a refractory material such as silica or coke. The catalyst is useful in a wide variety of selective hydrocarbon conversion processes, particularly the selective disproportionation of toluene to para-xylene.

Large crystal ZSM-5, its synthesis and use

This invention discloses a process for producing a high Viscosity Index lubricant having a VI of at least 125 from a waxy hydrocarbon feed having a wax content of at least 40 wt %. The process comprises catalytically dewaxing waxy paraffins present in the feed by isomerization in the presence of hydrogen and in the presence of a low acidity large pore zeolite isomerization catalyst. This catalyst has a ratio of SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, as synthesized, of at least 50:1, and an alpha value of not greater than 20, wherein the catalyst is prepared in the absence of boron. The catalyst further comprises a noble metal hydrogenation component. The feed may be hydrocracked prior to dewaxing with the large pore zeolite. The feed may be solvent dewaxed prior to isomerization. The effluent of the isomerization step may also be further dewaxed by either solvent or catalytic means in order to achieve target pour point.

Wax hydroisomerization process employing a boron-free catalyst

This invention discloses a process for producing a high Viscosity Index lubricant having a VI of at least 125 from a waxy hydrocarbon feed having a wax content of at least 40 wt %. The effluent of the process may also be further dewaxed by either solvent or catalytic means in order to achieve target pour point.

Wax hydroisomerization process

This invention relates the use of a catalyst composition having the structure of ZSM-5 and a matrix material, which has been manufactured by a new and useful method, for organic compound, e.g., hydrocarbon compound, conversion. The organic compound conversion processes described include catalytic cracking, gasoline hydrofinishing, toluene disproportionation, xylene isomerization, and ethylbenzene production.

Particular conversions are reforming and the dehydrogenation of methylcyclohexane to form toluene.

This invention relates to a new synthetic porous zeolite, characterize as ZSM-45, a method for its preparation and use thereof in catalytic conversion of organic compounds. This crystalline material may have a ratio of XO.sub.2 :Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 of at least 8, wherein X represents silicon and/or germanium and Y represents aluminum, boron, chromium, iron and/or gallium. When X is silicon and Y is aluminum, the new, synthetic zeolite is analogous, in some respects, to the naturally occuring zeolite, levynite. The silica/alumina form of this new crystalline material has a silica to alumina ratio of at least 8 and may be prepared with directing agents which are 2-(hydroxyalkyl) trialkylammonium compounds, dimethyldiethylammonium compounds or cobalticinium compounds. The new crystalline material exhibits a characteristic X-ray diffraction pattern.

This invention relates to a new synthetic porous crystalline material, a method for its preparation and use thereof in catalytic conversion of organic compounds. The new crystalline material exhibits a distinctive X-ray diffraction pattern.

Synthetic porous crystalline MCM-49, its synthesis and use

A catalytic cracking process for converting a hydrocarbon fraction, preferably boiling in the range of a heavy gas oil, is disclosed in which the cracking catalyst is a large crystal fully crystalline zeolite Beta having a broad range of silica-to-alumina mole ratios, i.e. 20-&gt;1000. The zeolite Beta catalyst is synthesized with a nitrogenous organic chelating agent, such as a tertiary alkanolamine, preferably triethanolamine, in the synthesis mixture along with at least one source of organic directing agent such as tetraethylammonium hydroxide, tetraethylammonium bromide and tetraethylammonium fluoride. The zeolite Beta can be used as a stand alone catalyst or an additive catalyst for hydrocarbon cracking reactions along with another molecular seive type catalyst such as a faujasite catalyst or ZSM-5. The large crystal zeolite Beta can also be treated with a source of phosphorus to enhance the properties of the zeolite.

Catalytic cracking process utilizing a zeolite beta catalyst synthesized

A large crystal zeolite Beta having a broad range of silica-to-alumina ratios, i.e. 20-.fwdarw.1000, is synthesized with triethanolamine in the synthesis mixture along with organic directing agents such as tertraethylammonium hydroxide, tetraethylammonium bromide and tetraethylammonium fluoride. The highly silicious zeolite Beta is produced from a silica source comprising precipitated silica and high purity, high silica starter seeds.

Synthesis of zeolite Beta

A large crystal zeolite Beta having a broad range of silica-to-alumina ratios, i.e. 20.fwdarw.1000, is synthesized with a chelating agent, exemplified by a tertiary alkanolamine such as triethanolamine in the synthesis mixture along with organic directing agents such as tetraethylammonium hydroxide, tetraethylammonium bromide and tetraethylammonium fluoride. The highly silicious zeolite Beta is produced from a silica source comprising precipitated silica and high purity, high silica starter seeds.

Zeolite Beta

A method of producing zeolites particularly ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 by strictly controlling the composition of the forming bath such that no organic is required. In a preferred embodiment the forming bath can contain seeds, lower aliphatic alcohols and/or ammonium hydroxide. The as-crystallized product has no organic in its pore structures and has a relatively low silica to alumina ratio.
