A method and a corresponding device for generating true random numbers for use in encryption of a message for secure transmission of said message from a sending device to a receiver, or for authentication of a sent message. An optical image represented by optical data is obtained by an optical sensor and processed in order to improve the stochasticity of the optical data. The thus processed data is then used for generating random numbers which can be used as an encryption key, or for generating an encryption key, for subsequent use in an encryption algorithm for encrypting the message. The method is implemented in a digital pen (DP) to be used in an information management system.

Method and device for encrypting a message

The present invention relates to a method, a system and a computer-readable medium storing computer-executable components for authenticating a digital pen. The invention is based on the idea that a paper look-up server issues an authentication receipt used by a service handler to authenticate a digital pen. The authentication receipt comprises such information that the service handler can use it to authenticate the digital pen without having to communicate with the paper look-up server.

The present invention relates to a method, a system and a computer-readable medium storing computer-executable components in connection with transfer of information data to a recipient. The invention is based on the idea that generation of random number data and the calculation of digital signatures are performed before information data is accessible to a digital pen. Since asymmetric encryption of data is a demanding operation for said digital pen to perform in terms of processing power, a lot of time can be saved if the generation of random number data and asymmetric encryption of said random number data is performed in advance, when the pen is in an idle, non-communicating mode, for example during battery loading of the pen or when the pen is lifted from the position-coded paper. This alleviates delay times when the pen is in its communicating mode.
