Methods may involve bio-informatics design, synthesis of artificial genes for a human insulin precursor having a leader peptide coding sequence, cloning artificial genes into an expression vector, and expression in an organism such as one selected from the genus. In another aspect, methods may include downstream processing for obtaining protein precursor molecules and subsequent conversion of protein precursor molecules to functional proteins.
