Methods and systems of defining product attributes may involve receiving a search query and extracting a user expectation from the search query. In addition, an attribute may be defined for a product based on the user expectation. In one example, consumer generated content such as forum content, review content, blog content and social networking content, is used to define the attribute.

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for generating a multi-dimensional social network identifier are provided herein. A method includes capturing one or more items of web information pertaining to past activity associated with a given individual; determining one or more user metrics associated with the given individual based on the one or more items of web information; quantifying a measure of similarity of the one or more user metrics associated with the given individual and the one or more user metrics associated with one or more additional individuals; and generating an identifier for the given individual based on the measure of similarity, and wherein said identifier differs from identification information attributable to the given individual on a social network.

An apparatus and method for off-loading application components to edge servers are provided. An application is made edge-aware by defining which components of the application may be run from an edge server, and which components cannot be run from an edge server. When a request is received that is to be processed by an application on an origin server, a determination is made as to whether the application contains edgable components. If so, an edgified version of the application is created. When a request is received that is handled by a component that may be run on the edge server, the request is handled by that component on the edge server. When a request is received that is handled by a component that is not edgable, the request is passed to a proxy agent which then provides the request to a broker agent on the origin server.

The eviction candidate sorting tool (ECST) is used with existing eviction algorithms that utilize a database for tracking objects stored in a cache. Rather than storing all the metadata associated with an object in a cache, the ECST extracts only certain attributes from the metadata, creating an 'evict table' listing all the cached objects and the chosen attributes, or 'classes.' The table can be sorted by class based on an eviction algorithm. An eviction mechanism can use the sorted table to identify candidates for eviction.

Methods, systems, and computer program products for programmatically determining whether components of a program are suitable for deployment in particular locations such as at the edge of a network. In preferred embodiments, program characteristics and operating environment characteristics, along with information about their interactions, are programmatically combined at deployment time to determine whether application components are edgeable. The disclosed approach enables people such as programmers (who are familiar with the program characteristics) and systems administrators (who are familiar with the operating environment characteristics) to each provide some control over the edgeability determination, along with other systems experts (who know how these features interact). Alternatively, this information or portions thereof may be supplied programmatically. Preferably, techniques of matrix algebra are used for the programmatic combination, yielding a value which is compared to a predetermined edgeability threshold to determine a particular component's edgeability.
