A device that comprises an outer component, an inner component and a filter module. The outer component includes a first hollow cylinder, and exterior ports in sidewalls of the first hollow cylinder. The inner component is positioned coaxially within the first hollow cylinder, and includes a second cylinder, and interior ports in the second cylinder, wherein the interior fluid ports are aligned parallel to the exterior ports. The filter module includes a hollow prism positioned coaxially within the outer component and surrounding the inner component, the hollow prism comprising at least four faces configured to retain filters. The filter module also includes vanes positioned along edges connecting the at least four faces and forming seals with the first hollow cylinder. A first filter is provided on a first face, of the at least four faces, which is aligned between a pair of the interior and exterior ports.

Filter device having multiple changeable filter surfaces

An apparatus used for analysis of a fluid-based system that includes a main chamber consisting of an optically transparent high strength material that ensures transmission of infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths and is capable of withstanding high pressures. The apparatus also includes first and second fluid tight endcaps attached to first and second ends of the main chamber, wherein the first endcap permits entry of a fluid into the main chamber and the second endcap permits the fluid to exit the main chamber. The apparatus further includes a fixed filter guide rail located inside the main chamber and attached to one of the end caps, and a filter located inside the main chamber and configured to removably attach to the fixed filter guide rail, wherein the filter is capable of capturing residue or contaminants in the fluid.

Portable inspection, collection, and delivery apparatus for fluid-based systems

An approach for determining an infrastructure service interruption is disclosed. The approach relies on utilizing UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle) to map electronic signals (e.g., Wi-Fi, etc.) that emanates from building structures (e.g., residential, commercial, etc.). Electronic signals having a certain frequency or multiple frequencies may be used. Essentially, the approach can detect power/signal loss by comparing differences in Wi-Fi signal maps pre and post event (e.g., severe thunderstorm, etc.). The 24/7 event monitoring is carried out by using UAVs and the UAVs can operate on a regular or event driven schedule vs. continuously operating multiple fixed data collection units.

Determining utility infrastructure and connectivity interruptions

A reusable apparatus for storing and delivering a sterile product. The apparatus includes a compressible reservoir adapted to allow for filling, storing, and delivering the sterile product, and a sterile inlet and outlet device including an inlet portion and an outlet portion. The sterile inlet and outlet device is connected to the compressible reservoir and adapted to allow the sterile product to be filled from exterior to the reusable apparatus and into the compressible reservoir through the inlet portion and adapted to allow the sterile product to be delivered from the compressible reservoir through the outlet portion.

Sterile storage, transport and delivery of fluids

Apparatuses and methods of fabrication are provided which include a coolant-cooled heat sink through which coolant passes to facilitate cooling the coolant-cooled heat sink, and an ultra-violet (UV) light assembly associated with the coolant-cooled heat sink for directing UV light towards an interior surface of the coolant-cooled heat sink across which the coolant passes. The UV light inhibits bacterial growth at the interior surface of the coolant-cooled heat sink.

A system for explosively applying a fire-fighting foam is provided. The system includes a thermoelectric generator that is attached to a battery heat source. A temperature differential across the thermoelectric generator generates an electrical current having a temperature-dependent voltage. A detonator circuit is electrically connected to the thermoelectric generator. The detonator circuit measures the voltage of the electrical current. An explosive foam applicator is communicatively connected to the detonator circuit and includes a trigger mechanism that detonates a propelling charge in response to receiving a signal from the detonator circuit when the detonator circuit determines that the electrical current corresponds to temperature that is greater than or equal to a threshold temperature. The explosive foam applicator is oriented such that detonating the propelling the charge causes the explosive foam applicator to apply a foam to the battery heat source.

Automatically generating fire-fighting foams to combat Li-ion battery failures

An apparatus for automatically generating a fire-fighting foam at elevated temperatures is provided. The apparatus includes a container sized to hold at least one battery. Water is stored within the container. One or more cartridges made, at least in part, of a temperature-dependent breakdown material are stored within the container. The one or more cartridges contain a foaming agent. Heat generated by a failing battery causes the temperature-dependent breakdown material to fail such that the foaming agent is released from at least one cartridge to mix with the water stored within the container.

A high resolution grazing incidence X-ray diffraction technique for measuring residual stresses and their gradients as a function of depth in thin film materials on substrates or in bulk materials is disclosed. The technique includes positioning a material relative to an X-ray source and an X-ray detector, performing an Omega scan to determine an Omega offset, setting the incidence angle at a first target incidence angle based on the Omega offset and greater than the critical angle of the material, performing a grazing incidence X-ray diffraction scan, analyzing the results to identify diffraction peaks, selecting a diffraction peak, setting the incidence angle at a second target incidence angle based on the Omega offset and a desired penetration depth, performing two theta scanning on a range of two theta values around the selected diffraction peak, performing refraction correction, and determining residual stress values for the material.

Measuring and analyzing residual stresses and their gradients in materials using high resolution grazing incidence X-ray diffraction

An apparatus and method for inducing high-speed wobble motions to a sample of interest is provided. After the sample is securely attached to a sample mounting block, the sample is variably tilted by using a hexapod stage and simultaneously rotated at a high speed about a rotation axis that is substantially perpendicular to a planar top surface of the hexapod stage. The position of the sample is continuously adjusted during the wobble motion to align a surface center of the sample with a testing center of an X-ray diffractometer. The simultaneous variable tilting and high-speed rotation of the sample induces wobble motions to the sample for randomizing orientations of a sample material's crystallites relative to the source and detector of an X-ray diffractometer.
