Techniques are described for quickly rerouting traffic to an application hosted on a first Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) location. In the event of an error in routing traffic to the first VPC portion traffic can be rerouted to a second VPC portion. The first and second VPC portions can be different portions of the same VPC or could be different VPSs. The techniques include steps for calculating a predetermined route to the second private virtual cloud location. The techniques further include steps for monitoring data for detecting an error in the first cloud location. The steps further include detecting a potential error based on the monitored data, and also verifying that the potential error is in fact a valid error. In response to verifying that the error is a valid error, further steps include performing a fast reroute of traffic to the second cloud locations along the predetermined route.

Techniques for optimizing routing decisions based on security metrics within a network environment are described herein. In some cases, by using various security metrics, such as encryption indicators, attestation indicators, secureness metrics, and reliability metrics, an exemplary system can assess the security level and reliability of network paths. These metrics may provide valuable insights into the trustworthiness and integrity of participating nodes and links and enable informed decision-making regarding path selection.

Routing techniques for enhanced network security

A method is described that involves a method for application performance in a cross-domain network using multi-controller coordination. The method includes receiving a request at a first controller from an application within an enterprise network, wherein the request seeks to monitor a network path. The first controller identifies one or more additional controllers within the enterprise network capable of monitoring the network path. These additional controllers include a first one within the same domain as the first controller (first domain) and a second one within a different domain (second domain). A token, encompassing authentication details and monitoring requirements linked to the request, is sent to the second additional controller from the first domain. Subsequently, direct communication is established with a resource of the second controller, allowing monitoring of the request and its associated operation.

Conveying operator intent to remote agents in an administrative-constrained cross-domain multi-controller FSO network

In one aspect, a method for monitoring a Fast Re-Route (FRR) path between a source node (Node-S) and a destination node (Node-E) in a network, includes generating a discovery-probe at the source node (Node-S) to detect at least one node with an FRR indicator along the FRR path that includes a plurality of next available nodes. The method also includes upon the discovery probe reaching a first node with the FRR indicator, generating a primary probe configured to detect a primary path and a repair probe configured to detect a repair path. The method also includes in response to receiving the primary probe via the primary path and the repair probe via the repair path at the destination node, sending the primary probe and the repair probe back to the source node to monitor the FRR path between the source node and the destination node.

Monitoring primary and local repair paths on all hops between two nodes

Technologies for testing resiliency of a data network with real-world accuracy without affecting the flow of production data through the network. A method according to the technologies may include receiving a production data packet and determining a preferred data route toward a destination node for the production data packet based on a first routing information base, wherein the first routing information base includes a database where routes and route metadata are stored according to a routing protocol. The method may also include, receiving a test data packet, and determining an alternate data route toward the destination node for the test data packet based on a second routing information base, wherein the second routing information base simulates an error in the preferred data route. The method may include sending the production data packet to the preferred data route and sending the test data packet to the alternate data route.

Virtual testing of network resiliency

A network device has a first OS component, a second OS component is added to run concurrently with the first. The first OS component transmits routing information to the second OS component where it is stored in memory. The second OS component registers with a routing infrastructure to receive packets that are routed to the first OS component. A timestamp and a first ID are added to a first instance of a packet and transmitted to the first OS component. The timestamp and a second ID are added to a second instance of the packet and transmitted to the second OS component. First functionality data for the first OS component is transmitted to a controller. Second functionality data for the second OS component is transmitted to the controller. The first and second functionality data are compared to determine whether to replace the first OS component with the second OS component.

Configuration validation in a disaggregated network OS environment

Techniques are presented for evaluating Equal Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) performance in a network that includes a plurality of nodes. According to an example embodiment, a method is provided that includes obtaining information indicating equal cost multi-path (ECMP) paths in the network and a branch node in the network. For the branch node in the network, the method includes instantiating a virtual network function that simulates an ECMP hashing algorithm employed by the branch node to select one of multiple egress interface of the branch node; providing to the virtual network function for the branch node, a query containing entropy information as input to the ECMP hashing algorithm that returns interface selection results; and obtaining from the virtual network function a reply that includes the interface selection results. The method further includes evaluating ECMP performance in the network based on the interface selection results obtained for the branch node.

A method comprises: at a network device configured to be connected to a network and having control and data planes, and interfaces configured for network operations in the network: upon receiving, from a controller, instructions to form a local twin of the network device that is a virtual replica of the network device to be used for test purposes, creating the local twin and configuring the local twin to include virtual control and data planes, and virtual interfaces, which are virtual replicas of, and operate independently from, the control and data planes, and the interfaces, of the network device, respectively; and hosting the local twin on physical resources of the network device such that the local twin is configured for virtual network operations on the network device that replicate, but are independent from, the network operations.

Method using network controller to deploy virtual environment in production network

Methods and devices provide fault injection testing techniques in a production network environment without risking service outages for hosted computing services, by providing examples of a remote network controller configured to communicate with network devices of a network; a remote fault injection communication protocol configuring a remote network controller in communication with a network device to signal a failure injection; and a failure injection module configuring a network device to configure a network device processor to implement a failure injection signaled according to the remote failure injection communication protocol. The method includes a network controller transmitting a failure injection signal in a control plane packet over a network connection to a network device, and the network device creating a child process by executing, in a dedicated runtime environment, a copy of one or more processes impacted by a parsed failure type.

Techniques for utilizing edge nodes disposed throughout a multi-site cloud computing network to generate a probe packet including indicators that guarantee the use of forward and return route paths to accurately measure the network performance of a route path between two endpoints in a wide area network (WAN). An edge node disposed in a site of the multi-site cloud computing network may store in virtual memory associated with the edge node, a mapping between route paths, usable to send data from the edge node to remote edge nodes in remote sites, and route indicators. A probe packet may include a data portion for measuring the network performance of a route path, a portion including local and remote discriminators, and/or an inner and an outer header.

Selecting forwarding paths and return paths in a networked environment

A method is performed by a node configured to implement an Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) protocol for rapid link failure detection. The node receives peer OAM packets sent by a peer node over a link at a peer periodic interval. While in a first mode of the OAM protocol, the node determines whether the peer node is reachable based on the peer OAM packets, sends OAM packets to the peer node at a periodic interval to indicate to the peer node that the node is reachable, and responsive to detecting a critical condition of the node that impairs the sending the OAM packets, transitions to a second mode of the OAM protocol. While in the second mode, the node adds, to the peer OAM packets, a code to indicate the critical condition, and reflects the peer OAM packets with the code back to the peer node.
