In an example, an apparatus includes an air treatment part to reduce the amount of a component comprised in air in the air treatment part and to supply treated air to a curing part, the air treatment part comprising a catalytic oxidizer to oxidize the component. The apparatus also includes the curing part to receive treated air from the air treatment part and to expose an item printed with a printing fluid comprising the component to the received treated air. The apparatus includes an air circulation system to cause the treated air to flow from the air treatment part into the curing part and to cause air from the curing part to flow into the air treatment part.

A printing apparatus comprises supports for holding a roll of print media during printing, said supports being accessible from one side of the printer to insert a roll of print media, and an auxiliary media tray suitable for holding in a stable position a roll of print media placed with its outer surface resting on the tray, said auxiliary tray being attached to the printer on the same side of the printer from where the supports for the roll of print media are accessible.

Disclosed is a handling device which comprises a lid, which may be arranged to cover at least partially a surface of a replaceable consumable of a printhead service station, engagement members for engaging the lid to the consumable, and a hand grip. The consumable may be replaced by engaging the handling device with the consumable while the latter is still in the service station, and removing the consumable from the service station with the handling device. The risk of getting ink on the user's hands when replacing a consumable is reduced.

A hardcopy device such as an ink-jet printer comprises a printhead, a spittoon for receiving waste ink from the printheads, and a heater for quickly drying the ink waste products in the spittoon. A drum platen having a print media supporting area also has an elongate spittoon region extending across its circumferential surface, the contents of the spittoon region being arranged to be removed intermittently by an elongate scraper which, in one position of the drum, can be moved radially towards the drum to contact the spittoon region.

A printer or other hardcopy apparatus comprises a pinch system () comprising a pinch wheel () and a drive roller () in which the pinch wheel is arranged to contact a print media at locations which move continuously transversely of the direction of media advance. The surface of the pinch wheel may have raised portions () extending around the circumference of the roller element and forming continuous bands inclined to the direction of media advance. In a modification, the bands form a helix () at each end of the pinch wheel. In a further modification a pinch member () comprises two parallel rows of freely-rotatable ball bearings () in a holder (), in which they may be capable of a certain amount of lateral movement.

Roller element for hardcopy apparatus

A printer consumable includes an ink bag, and a supply of ink included within the ink bag, and optionally a memory device and a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor communicates an ink bag pressure loss measurement through a communication means to an ink delivery system. The communication means uses the ink bag pressure loss measurement to determine a minimum pressure to print. In one embodiment, the communication means periodically polls the pressure sensor to acquire the ink bag pressure loss measurement and records the measurement on the memory device of the printer consumable. When the communication means receives a print job, the measurement is acquired from the memory device to determine the minimum pressure to print before the print job is processed.

Method and apparatus for determining a minimum pressure to print

A spittoon for servicing an inkjet printhead is provided, where the spittoon includes a bottom and one or more walls. At least one wall of the spittoon has an inwardly extending lip. The walls of the spittoon, taken in combination with the bottom of the spittoon, define a waste ink reservoir. The presence of at least one lip on the spittoon walls helps retain the waste ink when the spittoon is moved or tilted, minimizing ink spills.

Spill resistant spittoon for printer service stations

An integrally-formed ink tube carrier for a printer is disclosed which has a plurality of carrier tubes arrayed in a substantially rectilinear fashion. The tubes are connected by integrally-formed connecting regions. The carrier tubes used to hold ink tubes are preferably closed, thus providing a secondary containment in the event of an ink leak. One or more of the tubes may be slit, allowing the insertion of electrical wires. The ink tube carrier is preferably formed of a plasticized nylon, an elastomeric polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), elastomeric nylon, or polyether block amides.

A method of flattening print media in an ink jet apparatus, said apparatus comprising a media feed path, a media drive roller and one or more pinch rollers, said one or more pinch rollers being arranged to rotatably cooperate with said drive roller so as to grip said media therebetween, said drive roller having a rotational axis extending substantially transverse to said feed path and being arranged to rotate in first and second directions to respectively feed said media in first and second feed directions; said method comprising the steps of: feeding said media a first distance in said first feed direction; and then, feeding said media a second distance in said second feed direction, thereby causing said media to flatten in a direction substantially transverse to said feed path.

Print media flattening method and apparatus

A pen carriage for use in an inkjet printer of the type which includes a moveable scanning carriage, the carriage having at least one stall for reception of an inkjet pen having an upwardly directed fluid inlet which can be slidably connected to establish fluid communication of an inkjet pen on the carriage with an offboard fluid supply remote from the pen and a fluid delivery tube for connecting the supply to the pen. The carriage includes a base and a pen cover pivotally attached to the base, the tube having a length extending between pivotal connections of the cover to said base generally parallel to and radially spaced from the axis of pivotal connection of the cover to the base to permit and confine all twisting of the tube to the length between the connections. The cover also includes a fluid delivery passageway having a downwardly directed fluid delivery outlet opening toward and connected in fluid delivery relationship with the upwardly directed pen inlet when the cover is latched in closed position.
