In a method of assembling a carriage assembly, all first magnetic head assemblies facing first surfaces of magnetic disks are attached to associated arms of the carriage. Each of the magnetic head assemblies is fixed to one side surface of an associated one of the arms, by fitting and calking the mount portion of the first magnetic head assembly in the through-hole of the associated arm. Subsequently, all second magnetic head assemblies facing second surfaces of the magnetic disks are attached to the arms. Each of the second magnetic head assemblies is fixed to the other side surface of the associated one of the arms, by fitting and calking the mount portion of the second magnetic head assembly in the through-hole of the associated arm.

Assembly method of carriage assembly of magnetic disk drive

A magnetic disk apparatus, a method for assembling an actuator mechanism thereof and an assembling unit of the actuator mechanism, wherein a plurality of head arms are installed integrally onto an arm supporting block and a head assembly is fixed to these head arms by use of arm mounting assembly. Also, an assembling method and assembling unit suitable for installing the head assembly to the head arm in the case that a plurality of head arms are installed integrally onto the arm supporting block. Because a plurality of head arms are installed integrally onto the arm supporting block, its assembling work is simple, the cost is decreased, and still more it is possible to effectively reduce a latent off-track of magnetic head.

Method for assembling the actuator mechanisms of a magnetic disk

A carriage lock mechanism is provided with a lock member mounted on a movable member of the carriage mechanism, a lock pawl for engaging with the lock member to lock the carriage mechanism, and a spring for biasing the lock pawl in a direction where the lock pawl engages with the lock member, wherein a sliding surface on which the distal end of the lock pawl slides during the lock operation is formed on the lock member, and the sliding surface has a shape corresponding to a locus of the lock member. If the movable member of the carriage mechanism is to be pivoted about a shaft, the sliding surface consists of an arc surface having the shaft as its center.

Carriage lock mechanism of a magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus

A magnetic disk apparatus has a base frame on which a magnetic disk having a head landing zone is carried. A magnetic head is supported by a carriage which is disposed on the base frame to be movable between a stop position where the head is located on the head landing zone of the disk and a position where the head is located on the outer peripheral edge portion of the disk. The carriage is urged by a first urging member to the stop position and is moved by a carriage drive mechanism. A lock member is disposed on the base frame to be movable between an engaged position where the lock member engages the carriage in the stop position to hold it therein and a disengaged position off the path of travel of the carriage. The lock member is urged by a second urging member to the engaged position and is held in the disengaged position by a solenoid when it is energized. After the electric power supplied to the carriage drive mechanism, the solenoid and a disk drive motor for rotating the disk is cut off, the solenoid is energized for a predetermined period by a power supply unit.
