A method for estimating movements of a crowd between a first and second subregion in an area are monitored by a wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network includes nodes configured to exchange a radio frequency signal through a first respective second link. The first respective second link crosses the first respective second subregion. The method includes the steps of exchanging radio frequency signals over the first and second link; and measuring respective first and second attenuations of the exchanged radio frequency signals over the first respective second link; and estimating based on a change in the attenuations a flow of the crowd between the first and second subregion. The estimating further includes estimating based on the first and second attenuations a density of the crowd in the first respective second subregion; and estimating based thereon a flux of the crowd between the first and second subregion.

Computer-implemented method for estimating movements of a crowd between areas

A wireless communication device comprises a control unit, an antenna interface, an active wireless transceiver operable together with the control unit and antenna interface, a passive wireless transceiver operable together with the antenna interface and operable by harvesting power from received radio messages. The device is further configured to deactivate the one or more active wireless transceivers and control unit to an inactive state and, subsequently, by the passive wireless transceiver, activate the control unit and an active wireless transceiver to an active state when the passive wireless transceiver receives a message from the antenna interface.

Combined active and passive wireless communication device

A device is configured to monitor a state of a rotatable handle of a valve when the device is attached to the rotatable handle. The device comprises a vector magnetometer configured to measure a magnetic field. The device comprises a processing unit configured to obtain from the vector magnetometer measurements of the magnetic field when the handle is rotated; calculate a change in the state of the rotatable handle based on a difference between the measurements of the magnetic field; and report the change in the state.

Monitoring an operating state of a valve

A method and device for dynamically altering the signal-space-to-physical-space mapping database of a set of access points for use in localizing of an object, by obtaining a location profile for the object and obtaining an estimated location of an object by measuring the signal parameter induced by at least one access point and using the signal-space-to-physical-space mapping database for deriving an estimated location from the measured signal parameter, and determining whether the obtained estimated location complies with the obtained location profile for the object. If the obtained estimated location does not comply with the location profile, the mapping database is dynamically adjusted to obtain an adjusted signal-space-to-physical-space mapping database based on a difference between the measured signal parameter and the signal parameter corresponding with the signal space for the location expected based on the location profile.
