The invention relates to electric lamps and more particularly to automotive signal lamps. A glass composition is described for use in electric lamps, which glass is red colored. The glass composition comprises copper between 0.1 and 2% by weight, tin between 0.1 and 2% by weight, barium between 7 and 11% by weight, and strontium between 1 and 5% by weight.

Red-colored electric lamp

A glass composition for use in a lamp bulb includes cobalt oxide to provide a blue colored glass. The composition has an alkali metal oxide including lithium oxide. Such composition has a glass transition temperature Tbelow 700&#xb0; C.; e.g., below 500&#xb0; C. The glass composition is used for forming, during operation, a blue light-emitting bulb for an automotive lamp.

The electric lamp comprises a lamp vessel ( ) and an electric element ( ). The electric element ( ) is electrically connected to the outside via a current feedthrough ( ) which comprises a molybdenum gauze as a metal sealing part ( ). The risks of too strong oxidation of the metal sealing part and of excessive tensile stresses in the seal are both decreased when the molybdenum gauze ( ) is used, hence the safety of the lamp is increased.
