The invention provides a monolithic, highly integrated power supply circuit capable of providing various voltages for circuits on an expansion card, either from a main supply source or an auxiliary supply source. The monolithic power supply circuit preferably includes two switching converters, two low-drop-out regulators, a standby regulator, a reset circuit, and a control circuit. An associated method for providing various voltages via a monolithic power supply circuit is also disclosed.

Versatile and intelligent power controller

The present invention provides a wireless communication module system for use with a portable personal computer (PC) having a motherboard and an integral display screen. In one embodiment, the system includes a single wired interface having first and second ends, where the first end is coupled to the motherboard and the second end is coupled to the display screen and provides a connection port. The system further includes a wireless communication module having an antenna and an interface port removably coupled to the connection port. In this embodiment, the module also includes a transceiver configured to employ the antenna to transmit and receive radio communication signals, where the transceiver is further configured to employ the interface port to communicate with the motherboard. A method for performing a wireless communication and a wireless communication system incorporating the wireless communication module system or the method are also disclosed.

An electronic circuit includes a frequency conversion device ( ), an oscillator ( ), a band-pass filter ( ), and a controller ( ). The oscillator ( ) is connected to the frequency conversion device ( ), and the frequency conversion device ( ) is connected to the band-pass filter ( ). The frequency conversion device ( ) is arranged to receive a first signal (S ) at a frequency (f ), and to transform the first signal (S ) into an intermediate frequency signal (S ) at an intermediate frequency (f ) by applying a selection frequency (f ) from the oscillator ( ). The band-pass filter ( ) is arranged to receive the intermediate signal (S ) and to perform a band-pass filtering at a centre frequency (f ) and with a bandwidth (f ), the centre frequency (f ) being equal to the intermediate frequency (f ) at a predetermined working temperature of the band-pass filter ( ). The controller ( ) is capable of receiving data indicative of a shift of the centre frequency (f ) due to a temperature deviation of the band-pass filter ( ) from the predetermined working temperature and controlling the selection frequency (f ) of the oscillator ( ) for changing the intermediate frequency (f ) to follow the shift of the centre frequency (f ).

Filter center frequency temperature compensation by adjustment of the operating frequency of the host system

An integrated circuit includes an oscillator circuit for generating an output signal having a desired frequency. The oscillator circuit includes a capacitive device having a controllable capacitance value responsive to a control signal. A control circuit is connected to the oscillator circuit for controlling the capacitance value so that the oscillator circuit generates the output signal at the desired frequency. The control circuit includes a memory for storing a digital control word and a control signal generating circuit for converting the digital control word into the control signal for the capacitive device. Setting the desired frequency of the output signal is performed internal to the integrated circuit without requiring complex control circuitry for switching among various capacitors.

Integrated oscillator circuit with a memory based frequency control circuit and associated methods

A method and electronic circuitry for providing a Digital to Analog converter analog output in Integrated Circuit Digital to Analog Converter applications, said analog output being stable over temperature and supply changes, independent on transistor parameters of a particular chip, and stable for transistor parameter variation from chip to chip. An integrated circuit reference cell is implemented; an internal (secondary) reference quantity determining the analog Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) output is generated; the said internal (secondary) reference quantity for the Digital to Analog converter is referenced to on-chip device specific internal (primary) reference output from the chip in question, and the said chip device specific internal (primary) reference output, is processed further in order to derive a fixed predetermined DAC reference value, that is equal for any chip; and said fixed predetermined DAC reference value is supplied to the digital input of said Digital to Analog converter.

Method and electronic circuitry for providing a stable digital to analog converter analog output in integrated circuit digital to analog converter applications

A variable resistor, a method of manufacturing the same and a voltage bias circuit that incorporates at least one variable resistor. In one embodiment, the variable resistor includes: (1) a substrate including a doped region having an inherent resistance, (2) a controllable switch formed in the substrate, electrically coupled to the doped region and having a control terminal and (3) a controller, coupled to the control terminal, that toggles the controllable switch to modify a current flow through the doped region and thereby vary a resistance of the variable resistor.

Monolithic resistor having dynamically controllable impedance and method of manufacturing the same

A semiconductor device comprises a signal pin mounted on a base plate by adhesive. Parasitic capacitance exists between the pin and the base plate in the region of adhesive and may deleteriously affect the operation of circuitry in chip connected to pin by a bond wire. A bond wire connecting pin to the base plate has an inductance which forms a parallel resonant circuit with the parasitic capacitance, so that, at the resonant frequency, signals on pin at substantially the same frequency pass to or from the chip substantially unattenuated by the parasitic capacitance. Alternatively, the inductances of the signal pin and the bond wires may be such that, at the frequency of signals on the signal pin, an impedance transformation is provided between the input to the signal pin and the end of the first bond wire where it connects to the chip.

Semiconductor device having a signal pin with multiple connections

A system comprising a personal computer card and an interchangeable extension consists of a personal computer card a card information storage (CIS) system and a coaxial connection socket. First logic means are arranged to control an interrogation means comprising a digital-to-analog current converter, comparator and reference voltage source in order to supply a series of DC currents to the socket. The extension has a coaxial connection pin and grounded resistor having a value which identifies the type of extension so that when a DC current is applied to the pin by the socket, a characteristic voltage is generated across the resistor which is compared by the comparator with the reference voltage. The comparator indicates the value of resistor as a digital value to the CIS system which communicates the characteristics of the extension to a host PC. A second logic means disables power upon removal of a previous extension from the socket. Each extension may comprise a radio frequency antenna which may be external to the extension.
