A powerfold mechanism for an external rear view mirror is disclosed. The mechanism comprises: a powerfold housing mountable between a mirror housing and a vehicle mountable mirror base; a clutch member urged into engagement with the mirror, the clutch member allowing the mirror housing to be manually moved with respect to the mirror base; an electric drive train between the powerfold housing and the clutch member; and a drive stop movably mounted to the powerfold housing and having a drive stop face engagable with a drive stop detent mounted to the mirror base.

Power fold mechanism

A foldable rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle is disclosed. The assembly comprises: a mounting bracket mountable to a vehicle, the mounting bracket having a base with detent features disposed on a detent circle on the base; a mirror head frame rotatably mounted to the mirror base for rotation about a mirror head axis, the frame having detent features to match the detent features of the base, the detent features of the base and the frame forming a detent system, the detent system having at least a drive position. The frame is shaped to provide an aperture to receive either of: a manual fold insert; or a power fold mechanism having a clutch mechanism, the aperture at least partially inboard in a radial direction with respect to the detent features on the frame whereby at least the clutch mechanism of the power fold mechanism can be accommodated to operate on a smaller radius than that of the detent features.

Foldable rear view mirror assembly for a vehicle

An external rear view mirror assembly to be fitted to a motor vehicle is disclosed. The assembly comprises: a mirror base mountable to a vehicle; a mirror head frame rotatably mounted to the base for rotation about a mirror head axis; a detent operably interposed between the base and the frame; a spring acting between the frame and the base in a direction parallel to the axis, the spring for holding the detent engaged; and a power fold mechanism operably interposed between the base and the frame, the power fold mechanism having a drive train and a clutch mechanism, the clutch mechanism comprising a pair of axially spaced apart clutching faces, connecting the drive train to the base when the drive train is driving, the clutch mechanism arranged and constructed such that forces are not transmitted from the frame to the drive train when the drive train is not driving.

Vehicle mirror power fold mechanism

A pivot arrangement between a mirror head and a mirror mounting bracket of a rear vision mirror for a motor vehicle which uses a disc spring with a negative spring rate over part of its travel. The disc spring has a height to thickness ratio of greater than &#x221a;2(1.414).

Rear mirror mounting assembly

The present application includes a vehicle mirror which includes an approach light in the attachment assembly. The approach light is a single light source positionable in relation to predetermined inputs for directing light to various areas, depending on the inputs. Additionally, an intercom system is provided for communication between the interior of the vehicle and exterior of the vehicle, by way of the vehicle mirror. Also, a remote sensor is utilized to set predetermined memory positions of interior vehicle components such as seats, steering columns and brake pedals. This allows customization of the interior components upon an individual's approach to the vehicle.

Exterior mirror

A pivot assembly () adapted to connect a mirror head () and a mirror mounting bracket () of a rear vision mirror assembly. The pivot assembly () has a spigot extending from a spigot plate (), a plate () journalled to the spigot and a detent arrangement between the plate () and spigot. An attachment arrangement on both the spigot plate () and plate () allows the spigot plate () to be secured to either one of the mirror head () or the mirror mounting bracket (). The attachment arrangement also allows the plate () to be secured to the other of the mirror head () or the mirror mounting bracket (). A stop means associated with the spigot and adapted to engage with a stop arrangement on either the mirror head () or the mirror mounting bracket () limits rotation of the mirror head () with respect to the mirror mounting bracket ().

Vehicle external mirror wiring integration

This invention is a pivot assembly that connects mirror head and a mirror mounting bracket of a rear vision mirror that comprises a spigot , a plate with an aperture that is journalled to the spigot . A detent is located between the plate and the spigot which holds these components together to in turn hold the mirror head in at least one required position with respect to the mirror mounting bracket . The detent changes from a locked position where the plate is held with respect to the spigot to a disengaged position when the plate is rotated with respect to the spigot . A spring acts against the detent to hold it in its locked position. The spring yields to allow the detent to move to its disengaged position as the plate is rotated with respect to the spigot . An attachment mechanism is provided both on the spigot and the plate that allows the spigot to be secured to either one of the mirror head or mirror mounting bracket . The plate also has an attachment mechanism which allows it to be secured to the remaining component so that the mirror head can be rotated with respect to the mounting bracket. The invention provides a pivot assembly which is modular in nature and enables standardization of a pivot between various mirror head and mirror mounting bracket designs.
