A drive system for a ball mill includes a motor with a slip-ring rotor. The motor is assigned a family of characteristics relating the torque of the motor to a further characteristic variable. The family of characteristics has at least two different characteristics, and it includes a switching element that switches over the drive system abruptly between the two characteristics when there is a constant value of the characteristic variable. In a method for operating a ball mill with a drive system, a drum of the ball mill is moved out of a state of rest when the first characteristic is activated. In the event of caking in the drum of the ball mill, the drum is moved until the caking is in an inclined position. Actuation of the switching element brings about switching over to the second characteristic.

An energy management system for a transport device, in particular for a motor vehicle running on fuel and electricity, includes an energy source, an intermediate energy store and an electric energy consumer, in particular an electric drive. Control and/or regulation of the provision of energy, which is dependent on information relating to future energy requirements and supplied by means of at least one part of the transport device, can be carried out by the energy management system by means of the intermediate energy store and/or the energy requirements.

In a method of automating the loading and unloading of container ships in container terminals, a stowage plan of a ship cargo compartment to be handled by a container crane is transmitted from a harbor-side master computer via a data link to a PC of a crane automation system which renders the container crane operative in response to the stowage plan for transporting containers between a container ship and a repository location in a container storage area of the container terminal. The stowage plan is displayed on a touch screen of the crane automation system, whereby a next following repository location to be handled in the stowage plan is indicated on the touch screen, e.g. through a change in color.
