Compounds of formula I wherein: one of X or Y represents N and the other represents C; Rrepresents hydrogen, methyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, &#x2014;CHO, &#x2014;COCHor &#x2014;COOR; PRrepresents optionally-substituted aryl or heteroaryl; Rrepresents Calkyl, Chaloalkyl or &#x2014;NRR; Rrepresents hydrogen, Calkyl or arylCalkyl; Rrepresents hydrogen, Calkyl, arylCalkyl, &#x2014;CORor &#x2014;COOR; Rrepresents Calkyl or Chaloalkyl; aryl in the above definitions represents phenyl or naphthyl; and heteroaryl in the above definitions represents pyridine, pyrazine, pyrimidine or pyridazine, which can be optionally fused to a benzene ring. These compounds are useful as cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors.

Imidazoles with anti-inflammatory activity

The present invention relates to new tetralones having formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.7 are as defined in claim 1. The invention also relates to processes for their preparation, to pharmaceutical compositions containing them and to their use in the manufacture of medicaments. These compounds are antihypertensive and bronchodilator agents.
