A gage for measuring a force at which hooks of couplers used to couple passenger transit type vehicles together are biased when such vehicles are coupled together by such hooks. Such gage including a bracket member having at least one guide pin disposed thereon. Such at least one guide pin being sized and located to seat in at least one guide hole disposed in a railway transit coupler. An elongated tubular housing member is mounted on such bracket member. There is a main coil spring disposed within such elongated tubular housing member. A shaft member is disposed along a longitudinal axis of such main coil spring. A plunger member extends from a forward end of the shaft member and such tubular housing member for engaging a hook portion of such coupler and a power screw member is threadedly engaged into an end of the elongated tubular housing member opposite the forward end of such tubular housing member for translating the shaft member in such elongated tubular housing member and such plunger member into and from such hook of such coupler.

Coupler hook force gage

An improved coupler control circuit board which can be positioned in an environmentally protected location for controlling an uncoupling operation of a mechanical type coupler mechanism utilized to connect adjacently disposed ends of a pair of passenger transit type railway cars. Such coupler control circuit board includes a power supply device connected to receive a predetermined input voltage. The power supply device reduces such predetermined input voltage received therein to a suitable predetermined output voltage. A timer/sequencer device is connected to receive as inputs thereto both such predetermined output voltage from such power supply device and an uncoupling command signal from a momentary input command for providing a pair of output signals. A first relay driver is connected to receive a first one of such pair of output signals from such timer/sequencer device for providing an uncoupling output signal, and a second relay driver is connected to receive a second one of such pair of output signals from such timer/sequencer device for providing a coupling output signal.

Timed thrust uncoupling mechanism for passenger transit type railway cars

An electric coupler engages a mechanical coupler disposed on a passenger transit vehicle to enable necessary electrical connections required to operate such vehicle to be achieved. Such electric coupler includes an interface device engaging both such mechanical coupler and such electric coupler for positioning the electric coupler on such mechanical coupler. A first securing device engages each of such interface device and such mechanical coupler for securing them together. A second securing device engages each of such interface device and such electric coupler for securing them together. A pair of bearing shaft members and a pair of shaft support members connected to a respective one of such pair of bearing shaft members are provided. A third securing device engages each of such interface device and such pair of shaft support members for securing them together. A pair of electric coupler box members and a pair of linear bearings are provided. A respective one of such pair of linear bearings is secured to a portion of a respective one of such electric coupler box members and engage a respective one of such bearing shaft members. A thrust plate member is disposed on such linear bearing electric coupler assembly. A pair of coil springs are connected to support such thrust plate for longitudinal movement. A connection device engages such electric coupler box members and such coil springs for connecting them together. A thrust mechanism is connected to the thrust plate for applying a thrust force thereto during coupling and uncoupling operations.
