A method for creating a metadata field in a template, which includes receiving a template selection, receiving a selection of a new metadata field, receiving properties of a metadata field to be added to the template, storing the properties of the metadata field, and downloading the metadata field to a scanning device in response to a signal from the scanning device.

Method for adding metadata to scanned documents

A system for electronically distilling information from a business document uses a network scanner to electronically scan a platen area, having a business document thereon, to create a bitmap. A network server carries out a segmentation process to segment the scan generated bitmap into a bitmap object, the bitmap object corresponding to the scanned business document; a bitmap to text conversion process to convert the bitmap object into a block of text; a semantic recognition process to generate a structured representation of semantic entities corresponding to the scanned business document; and a document generation process to convert the structured representation into a structure text file. The semantic recognition process includes the processes of generating, for each line of text having a keyword therein, a terminal symbol corresponding to the keyword therein; generating, for each line of text not having a keyword therein and absent of numeric characters, an alphabetic terminal symbol; generating, for each line of text not having a keyword therein and having a numeric character therein, an alphanumeric terminal symbol; generating a string of terminal symbols from the generated terminal symbols; determining a probable parsing of the generated string of terminal symbols; labeling each text line, according to a determined function, with non-terminal symbols; and parsing the business document information text into fields of business document information text based upon the non-terminal symbol of each text line and the determined probable parsing of the generated string of terminal symbols.

The system runs on a distribution agent Web server accessible from one or more types of network Operating Systems ('OS') via a Secure Socket Layer ('SSL') channel. System and method for providing secure value-added document network services

This invention provides systems and methods that use a meta job description that combines a number of scan jobs into a single combined job and use a meta job description that incorporates the scan parameters for a plurality of scan. Scanning documents with a meta job description provides user with the ability to scan any number of different documents with different parameters and combine them into a single combined job before the job is sent to its final destination. This allows the user to compose a single electronic document from any number of documents with different parameters.

Systems and methods for creating a single electronic scanned job from multiple scanned documents

A system and method that enables scan to print services is disclosed. In one embodiment, Document Reproduction System (DRS) has at least one scan to print job template specifying at least one recipient and at least one printing device. A storage pool service is also provided for storing the job template which is accessible by at least one printing device. A scanner is utilized for receiving a digitized version of a document to be manipulated by the specified job template parameters. The DRS performs the specified operations on the digitized document in accordance with the job template parameters and then the document is forwarded to the recipient's designated printing device.

System and method for scan-to-print architecture

A system and method is presented for tuning a scanned image to a specified printing device for enhanced image quality output. The method generally has the steps of first receiving a scanned image in digitized format and reading a specification of how the image was scanned including the input document format; the output document format, syntax, and parameter semantics. Loading a device profile of the target printing system as input wherein the parameters that define the enhanced print quality for a printing system are specified by the device profile of that system. Producing an output image such that when printed on the target printer, it produces enhanced quality output. In an alternative embodiment, the system and method further comprises the step of re-sampling the scanned image if the resolution of the primary system does not match that of the scanning system in order to re-screen the scanned image halftones to the ones that are suitable for the designated printing system and to adjust the color gamut of the scanned image to match that of the printing system.

The present invention is a method for bottom-up recognition of tables within a document. This method is based on the paradigm of graph-rewriting. First, the document image is transformed into a layout graph whose nodes and edges represent document entities and their interrelations respectively. This graph is subsequently rewritten using a set of rules designed based on apriori document knowledge and general formatting conventions. The resulting graph provides a logical view of the document content. It can be parsed to provide general format analysis information.

Method for graph-based table recognition

Tabular documents have column structures that can be determined without decoding the bitmap. The method searches for separation intervals that separate word fragments in the table. These separation intervals are processed by intersecting them with other intervals and ranking the resulting intervals. A structured closure of separation intervals are maintained in bins. The intervals in the bins are sorted and used to determine new intersections when the next separation interval is processed. The intervals with the highest ranking are selected as the column separation intervals. The columns are easily identified with the method without first decoding the bitmap.
