A distributed key-value database management system may provide transactions having a high degree of conformance to ACID properties. A data element may be maintained as a versioned list, where each entry may comprise a timestamp and a value indicative of a corresponding version of the data element. The timestamp may be based at least in part on a vended time value. Timestamps may be monotonically increasing and unique across all entries in a distributed system. Conflicting updates to a data element may be detected directly, prior to the completion of involved transactions.

Approaches are described for security and access control for computing resources. Various embodiments utilize metadata, e.g., tags that can be applied to one or more computing resources (e.g., virtual machines, host computing devices, applications, databases, etc.) to control access to these and/or other computing resources. Systems and methods are presented for processing and auditing data records using a stream based data processing system. Data output by data center computers may be collected and used to generate data records that include values for metrics related to computer resource consumption. These data records may be inserted into a stream which can include auditors and various other processors. The auditors may determine whether any of the data records include discrepancies. A gating processor can determine which processors, if any, to provide data records that include discrepancies. Further, an amendment processor can be used to resolve discrepancies detected by the auditors. In addition, a billing processor can be used to generate bills that identify the discrepancies and include information relating to the cause and actions taken in response to the discrepancies detected in the data records.

To achieve long running batch updates, a transaction aggregator layer and one or more data aggregation queues, such as a command queue, are placed between one or more clients and a database. Writes go to the database aggregator layer and are enqueued in the appropriate data aggregation queue, which may be allocated by transaction. Committing the transaction drains the queue and writes the contents of the queue in one transaction-like update to the database. By using the transaction logic in the transaction aggregator layer, transaction-like behavior may be achieved that allows both updates and transactions to scale with less impact on database servers.

Disclosed are various embodiments for performing cross-domain communication using messenger frames. One or more messenger frames are dynamically generated in response to determining that a message is to be sent from a first frame in one domain to a second frame in another domain in a client. The message is sent from the first frame to the second frame by embedding the message in addresses of the messenger frames. Code executing in the first frame and code executing in the second frame are restricted from direct communication in the client.
