A collection container and method for collecting a predetermined volume of a biological sample, and particularly a whole blood sample, includes at least one gene induction blocking agent in an amount effective to stabilize and inhibit gene induction. The gene induction blocking agent is able to stabilize nucleic acids in the biological sample at the point of collection to block ex vivo gene induction in the sample when stored at room temperature. The stabilizing agents include cationic compounds, detergents, particularly cationic detergents, chaotropic salts, ribonuclease inhibitors, chelating agents, organic solvents, organic reducing reagents, and mixtures thereof. The biological sample is collected directly from the animal and immediately mixed with the gene induction blocking agent without any intermediate processing or handling.

Method and device for collecting and stabilizing a biological sample

A collection container and method for collecting a predetermined volume of a biological sample, and particularly a whole blood sample, includes an effective amount of at least one stabilizing agent. The stabilizing agent is able to stabilize nucleic acids in the biological sample at the point of collection to prevent enzymatic degradation of the nucleic acids. The stabilizing agents include cationic compounds, detergents, particularly cationic detergents, chaotropic salts, ribonuclease inhibitors, chelating agents, and mixtures thereof.

A sample collection assembly provides for the simultaneous collection of a bulk sample and a drop sample. The assembly includes a specimen collection container for collection of the bulk sample from an insertable probe. A drop sample substrate is positioned across an open end of the container or the closure that is in the open end of the container. The drop sample substrate is puncturable by the probe upon probe insertion. The drop sample substrate includes a drop sample retaining surface for retaining the drop sample upon withdrawal of the probe from the container.

Sample collection assembly for collection of a bulk and drop sample

A sample collection assembly provides for the collection, transport and dispensing of a plurality of discrete biological samples. The assembly includes a sample tray which supports sample wells in spaced apart registration. The sample wells are provided for the collection of the discrete biological samples. The sample tray including the sample wells is supported in a sample tray case which encloses the sample tray. The sample tray is movably accommodated within the case for movement between a first position enclosing the sample wells to a second position rendering exteriorly accessible one of the sample wells to permit dispensement of the sample well from the tray.
