Distal access aspiration guide catheter system and methods for delivering implantable devices, catheters, or substances in or near and/or restoring flow through body lumens, such as blood vessel lumens are described. A Distal access aspiration guide catheter having a proximal, medial, and distal possessing high flexibility, high resistance to kinking and a large lumen to wall thickness ratio.

A catheter system can be used to remove obstructions, deliver implantable devices or substances, and/or restore flow through body lumens. The system can include an outer shaft having a lumen, sidewall, and a longitudinal window in the sidewall, an inner shaft disposed within the lumen, and an expandable member having a first end coupled to the outer shaft and a second end coupled to the inner shaft through the window. The expandable member can be positioned adjacent to a target region while in the collapsed configuration. The expandable member can be expanded to an expanded configuration by relative movement of the outer shaft and the inner shaft.

An externally-applied heat exchange pad has three layers laminated together, an inner and outer non-conductive layer and a middle conductive layer. Systems and methods for removing obstructions from, delivering implantable devices or substances in or near and/or restoring flow through body lumens, such as blood vessel lumens. A catheter having a proximal portion of a first diameter and a distal portion of a second diameter (smaller than the first diameter) is advanced into a body lumen. The distal portion of the catheter is caused to expand to a diameter that is larger than the second diameter but no larger than the first diameter. A working device is then advanced out of the distal end of the catheter and used to remove obstructive matter, deliver an implantable device or substance and/or restore flow. The distal portion can be reduced in diameter prior to removal from the body.

The balloon is inflated by means of a kink-resistant secondary lumen embedded within the walls of the balloon guide catheter system tubing.

An indwelling heat exchange catheter with integrated temperature sensor includes a catheter tube. A closed loop heat exchanger extends from the catheter tube. A temperature sensor can be integrally formed with the catheter tube such that it is insulated from the closed loop heat exchanger. The indwelling heat exchange catheter can further include a guide-wire tube that extends from the catheter tube and in such a case, the temperature sensor can be affixed to the guide-wire tube. Alternatively, a wire can extend through the catheter tube and the temperature sensor can be affixed to the wire.

A fluid circuit for circulating coolant in a closed loop between an intravascular catheter and a heat exchange system includes a buffer IV bag in fluid flow series with the catheter between the catheter and a pump that pumps the coolant to the heat exchange system. A conventional IV bag is connected by means of a spike and tube to the buffer bag.
