A cell agnostic battery pack that is capable of receiving sub-modules including lithium-ion cells regardless of form factor type, technology or supplier is described. The battery pack includes a chassis comprising compartments for receiving lithium-ion cells in the form of sub-modules that are connectable in series, parallel or series and parallel, and a battery pack controller. The battery pack further comprises internal interconnects adapted for coupling the sub-modules received in the compartments to the battery pack controller to create a target pack voltage and energy density.

According to at least one aspect, embodiments herein provide an adaptive battery pack module comprising a Li-ion battery, a low-voltage bus coupled to the Li-ion battery, a bi-directional DC-DC converter coupled to the low-voltage bus, a low-voltage output coupled to the low-voltage bus, a high-voltage output, and a high-voltage bus coupled between the bi-directional DC-DC converter and the high-voltage output, wherein the low-voltage output is configured to be coupled to at least one Li-ion battery of at least one external battery pack module, and wherein the bi-directional DC-DC converter is configured to receive DC power from the Li-ion battery and the at least one Li-ion battery of the at least one external battery pack module via the low-voltage bus, convert the received DC power into output DC power, and provide the output DC power to the high-voltage bus.

System and method for estimating an efficiency of a power device

Systems and methods of providing power with an uninterruptible power supply are provided. The uninterruptible power supply includes a first input to receive an input AC voltage from a power source, the input AC voltage having an associated phase angle, and a second input to receive an input voltage from a backup power source. The uninterruptible power supply also includes an output. The output provides output power derived from power from at least one of the power source and the backup power source. The uninterruptible power supply also includes an inverter coupled to the backup power source, a relay and a controller. The relay is configured to couple the first input with the output in a first position, and to couple the inverter with the output in a second position. The controller is configured to detect a voltage swell condition of the input voltage, and responsive to detection of the voltage swell condition, control the relay to switch from the first position to the second position during a predefined range of phase angles of the input AC voltage.

UPS mechanical transfer relay arc mitigation

Current measurement apparatus and methods are disclosed to measure load DC output current on the secondary side of a high frequency transformer in a switched power supply. Current in the primary side of the transformer is detected with a current transformer, which produces a voltage across a resistance proportional to the primary current in the high frequency transformer. Averaging of the voltage across the resistance is performed during periods of power transfer in the high frequency transformer and held by a capacitor until the next period of power transfer. The held voltage is used to determine the true load DC output current on the secondary side of the high frequency transformer by the turns ratio relationship of the secondary current to the primary current of the high frequency transformer. By averaging the voltage only over the periods of power transfer in the transformer, the effects of magnetizing current in the high frequency transformer are negated, thereby affording a more accurate measurement of DC output current.
