Embodiments of the invention include systems and methods for recovering the system status and maintaining drive coherency after an unexpected power loss. In particular, these systems and methods reduce overhead for maintaining drive coherency by providing for pre-allocation of groups of write addresses and recording the pre-allocated groups of addresses to the non-volatile memory. Write processes can write to the pre-allocated group of addresses while the next group of addresses are pre-allocated and recorded to non-volatile memory.

Power-safe data management system

Embodiments of the invention are directed to optimizing reconstruction of operation data in volatile memory of solid-state storage subsystems. In various embodiments, operation data is stored in the volatile memory with persistent backup data of the operation data in the non-volatile memory. In one embodiment, operation data includes a superblock table that is used to identify most or all groups of blocks (superblocks) within the storage device that certain firmware components operate on. Sometimes operation data in the volatile memory is lost or corrupted due to a power interruption or system shutdown. To optimize the reconstruction of the superblock table or other similar operation data in the volatile memory, embodiments of the invention use a 'snapshot entry' to identify the latest entry information, allowing the controller to quickly identify the most updated physical locations of the operation data portions and complete the reconstruction in an efficient manner.

A non-volatile storage system is provided with reduced delays associated with loading and updating a logical-to-physical mapping table from non-volatile memory. The mapping table is stored in a plurality of segments, so that each segment can be loaded individually. The segmented mapping table allows memory access to logical addresses associated with the loaded segment when the segment is loaded, rather than delaying accesses until the entire mapping table is loaded. When loading mapping segments, segments can be loaded according to whether there is a pending command or by an order according to various algorithms.
