A method of making a reinforced laminate, including the steps of placing a reinforcing grid on a first outer sheet of thermoplastic, preparing an elastomeric material capable of forming a tie layer between two sheets of thermoplastic, and laminating a second outer sheet of thermoplastic to the first sheet of thermoplastic and the reinforcing grid with the tie layer of elastomeric material therebetween, whereby the reinforcing grid is held by the elastomeric tie layer in between the first outer sheet of thermoplastic and the second outer sheet of thermoplastic, and the reinforcing grid being displaceable within the elastomeric tie layer. A reinforced laminate, including a first outer layer of thermoplastic, a second outer layer of thermoplastic, a reinforcing grid disposed between the first outer layer and the second outer layer, a tie layer of elastomeric material disposed between the first outer layer and the second outer layer arranged to hold the reinforcing grid but allow slippage of the reinforcing grid in the tie layer upon tensile loading of the reinforced laminate, and wherein the first outer layer, the second outer layer, the reinforcing grid, and the tie layer are laminated together to form a reinforced laminate.

Reinforced laminate with elastomeric tie layer

A continuous reinforced composite material, including a first sheet with at least two polymer layers and a first fabric layer operatively coupled therebetween. The first sheet having at least one border where at least some of the fibers of the first fabric layer are continuous thereby having no free ends at the border. The composite material further includes a second sheet with at least two polymer layers with a second fabric layer operatively coupled therebetween. The second sheet having at least one border where at least some of the fibers of the second fabric layer are continuous thereby having no free ends at the border. The composite material further includes a seam wherein the borders of the first sheet and second sheet overlap and are operatively coupled to one another. A method of making a continuous reinforced composite material, including providing a first sheet having two polymer layers and a reinforcing fabric layer disposed between the polymer layers, the fabric layer having at least some continuous fibers without free ends on at least one border of the first sheet. The method further includes providing a second sheet having two polymer layers and a reinforcing fabric layer disposed between the polymer layers, the fabric layer having at least some continuous fibers without free ends on at least one border of the second sheet. The method further includes overlapping the respective borders having continuous fibers of the first and second sheet and seaming the first sheet and the second sheet at the overlapping borders.

Forming a continuous reinforced composite material

The polymer and fabric composite includes at least two polymer sheets with fabric attached covering substantially one side of the polymer sheets. In one embodiment, one of the sheets has a strip of polymer along at least one edge not backed by the fabric. This edge forms a lip that can be attached to another polymer sheet to form a strong bond between the two polymer layers. In another embodiment multiple polymer sheets are prepared with the fabric backing covering substantially one side leaving a lip of polymer for attachment along an edge of each of the polymer sheets. Additional similarly prepared polymer sheets with a polymer lip and fabric backing can be attached to manufacture the desired size of continuous composite.

Continuous polymer and fabric composite

A method for making a polymer and fabric sheet composite has been developed that can provide large surface area coverage. The fabric is backed by a polymer sheet with a strip along the edge not backed by the fabric. This strip of polymer can be used to attach to another sheet of polymer and fabric composite by sealing the polymer edge of the first sheet to the polymer layer of the second sheet.

Continuous polymer and fabric composite and method

A reinforced shrink wrap has been developed for use in all types of environments and products or applications. The shrink wrap is tear resistant and can be prepared to withstand exposure from the sun and corrosive elements. The wrap is multilayered with reinforcing filamentous grids in adhesive layers on either side of a shrink film with outer layers of olefin film.
