The apparatus further includes a processor configured to execute the logic. Some of the embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method comprising: receiving, by a peripheral device, a file for printing; transmitting, by the peripheral device to a server, the file in order to enable the server to render the file in a format that can be printed by the peripheral device; based on transmitting the file to the server, receiving, by the peripheral device from the server, (i) the file rendered in the format that can be printed by the peripheral device, and (ii) an advertisement; printing, by the peripheral device, the file rendered in the format that can be printed by the peripheral device; and displaying the contents of the advertisement on a display of the peripheral device.

Method and apparatus for remotely rendering a file in a format appropriate for printing

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with encoding and processing page description language (PDL) documents using a light-weight data interchange format are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes a communication logic configured to receive a request for a page description language (PDL) document. The PDL document is encoded in accordance with a lightweight data interchange format that includes (i) content of the page, and (ii) an arrangement of the content within the page. The apparatus includes a processing logic configured to retrieve the PDL document from a data store and to interpret the PDL document to generate a rasterized document that defines a layout of the page to be printed. The layout of the page as defined by the rasterized document is consistent with the arrangement of the content within the page as specified by the PDL document encoded with the lightweight data interchange format.

Method and apparatus for processing a page description language document

The software on the host machine examines a pixel, either alone or in relation to adjacent pixels. Based on the image data contained in the pixel or group of pixels, a multi-bit value is generated that can be used by the printing device to easily reproduce the necessary detail of the original pixel. The multi-bit value also contains print engine control parameters to handle items such as toner miser mode, toner explosion, edge roll off, etc. The multi-bit value can be generated algorithmically by using a lookup table or by some combination of these methods.

Apparatus, methods, and other embodiments associated with automatically selecting an access point are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes an inquiry logic in a first device. The inquiry logic is configured to automatically determine attributes of a network connection between a network access point and a second device connected to the network access point. The inquiry logic is further configured to determine the attributes of the network connection in response to the first device being connected to the second device. The apparatus also includes a communication logic that is configured to self-configure and automatically establish a wireless connection to the network access point from the first device using the attributes.

Method and apparatus for automatically selecting an access point

An apparatus and method are disclosed to communicate, from a first device to a wireless device, information by which the wireless device may identify an access point as a potential network device. The information is encoded in a packet stream by the first device, and wirelessly communicated from the access point to the wireless device. The information may be encoded by varying a packet characteristic, such as packet length, that is preserved even if the packets are encoded by the access point. The information may include a beacon, a SSID and/or a key.

A system and method for synchronizing records stored in differing formats in a shared data environment. One aspect of the invention involves distinguishing a record without regard to its format. Once a record is introduced into the environment, it is detected. A record file is generated and associated with the event. A record file typically includes a record tag uniquely identifying a given record in the shared data environment and a record type indicating information such as whether or not the record represents a recurring event as well as the format of the record. A record file also contains data indicating the status of the particular event, that is, whether it is new, unchanged, modified, or deleted. When synchronizing, only those records with equivalent record tags are compared. The record type and status are then used to guide the synchronization of equivalent records.

Some of the embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method comprising coupling a first device to a client device, the first device having a virtual storage drive, the virtual storage drive storing a device driver; installing the device driver in the client device; and subsequent to installation of the device driver in the client device, installing a filter driver in the client device, the filter driver configured to prevent the client device from detecting the virtual storage drive of the first device whenever the first device is subsequently re-coupled to the client device. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
