In one embodiment, an EV charging system includes: a plurality of first converters to receive and convert grid power at a distribution grid voltage to at least one second voltage; a high frequency transformer coupled to the first converters to receive the at least one second voltage and output at least one high frequency AC voltage; and a plurality of port rectifiers coupled to a plurality of secondary windings of the high frequency transformer, each of the port rectifiers comprising a unidirectional AC-DC converter to receive and convert the at least one high frequency AC voltage to a DC voltage. At least some of the port rectifiers may be coupled in series to provide at least one of a charging current or a charging voltage to at least one dispenser to which at least one EV is to couple.

Systems, apparatus and methods for electric vehicle charging via a power conversion system

In one aspect, an electric vehicle (EV) charging system includes: a plurality of first converters to receive grid power at a distribution grid voltage and convert the distribution grid voltage to at least one second voltage; at least one high frequency transformer coupled to the plurality of first converters to receive the second voltage and electrically isolate a plurality of second converters. The EV charging system may further include the plurality of second converters coupled to the output of the at least one high frequency transformer to receive and convert the at least one second voltage to a third DC voltage. At least some of the plurality of second converters are to couple to one or more EV charging dispensers to provide the third DC voltage as a charging voltage or a charging current.

In an embodiment, a power module may include: a plurality of first stages, each having an H-bridge to receive an incoming AC voltage at a first frequency and rectify the incoming AC voltage to a DC voltage; a plurality of DC buses, each to receive the DC voltage from one of the plurality of first stages; a plurality of second stages, each coupled to one of the plurality of DC buses to receive the DC voltage and output a second AC voltage at a second frequency; and a hardware configuration system having fixed components and optional components to provide different configurations for the power module.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a surge voltage blocker circuit to couple between a distribution grid network and a grid-side power converter of a power conversion system. A power management apparatus may include a plurality of ports and a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through a synchronous common coupling. The synchronous common coupling connects only power between each of the plurality of electrically isolated stacks and is configured to maintain electrical isolation for each of the plurality of stages in the plurality of electrically isolated stacks.

An apparatus comprises a synchronous common coupling, a plurality of ports, and a plurality of stacks connected through the synchronous common coupling. Each stack comprises at least one stage, with each stage comprising at least one source/load bridge, at least one flux bridge, and a DC bus. The at least one source/load bridge of one stage of each stack is connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports, the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to an electrically isolated winding in the synchronous common coupling, and the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to the at least one source/load bridge of the stage through the DC bus. The synchronous common coupling is configured to exchange power between each of the plurality of stacks.

The present disclosure relates to power management systems utilizing a high-frequency low voltage pre-charge. A power management system may comprise a low voltage power source, a power supply assembly connected to the low voltage power source, and a power module comprising a plurality of arrays. Each array may comprise a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through a synchronous common coupling. Each electrically isolated stack may comprise a plurality of stages, a multi-winding secondary, a pre-charge circuit connected to at least one of the plurality of stages, and a plurality of multi-winding isolated power supplies. Each multi-winding isolated power supply may be connected to one of the plurality of stages. The power supply assembly may be configured to supply charging current from the low voltage power source to at least one of the plurality of electrically isolated stacks.

The source/load bridge may be connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports, the flux bridge may be connected to an electrically isolated winding in the synchronous common coupling, and the flux bridge may be connected to the source/load bridge through the DC bus.

An intrinsically safe lighting system for energizing fluorescent lamps and the like in potentially flammable or explosive atmospheres is disclosed wherein one or more intrinsically safe power supply modules embody current monitoring and diverter circuitry, operable, upon the occurrence of abnormal circuit conditions such as a short or open circuit, to interrupt the lamp power supply and divert energy therefrom so rapidly that non-intrinsically safe sparking and ignition of the flammable atmosphere is avoided.
