A method of treating ocular pain or discomfort, the method comprising: administering to an eye of a subject suffering from or at risk of suffering from ocular pain or discomfort, a therapeutically effective amount of chondroitin sulfate at a concentration of 0.1% to 2.5% wt/wt.

Use of chondroitin sulfate for relieving ocular pain

Chondroitin sulfate-based pharmaceutical formulations useful for the treatment of ocular pain or discomfort, such as occurring from ocular surgery, dry eye disease, ocular surgery induced dry eye disease, contact lens induced ocular surface dry eye disease, preservative induced ocular surface disease, conjunctivitis, corneal abrasion, burns, blepharitis, and stye.

The disclosure provides compositions and systems for topical ophthalmic application, which include an aqueous mixture of bromfenac and flowable mucoadhesive polymer, for treating inflammation and inflammatory conditions of the eye.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory ophthalmic compositions

A method of treating blepharitis includes administering to the affected eye of a subject an effective amount of an active ingredient in an ophthalmically acceptable vehicle for a sufficient period of time to treat blepharitis. The active ingredient consists essentially of a glucocorticoid in an ophthalmically acceptable vehicle that includes an aqueous polymer suspension that when mixed with tear fluid provides a sustained release of said active ingredient. The aqueous polymer suspension includes a carboxyl-containing polymer having less than about 5% by weight cross-linking agent and has a viscosity in a range from about 1,000 to about 30,000 centipoises. A kit includes: (a) a composition comprising about 0.1% by weight dexamethasone in this ophthalmically acceptable vehicle and (b) instructions for using the composition of (a) for the treatment of blepharitis.

Methods for treating ocular inflammatory diseases

A method of treating non-infectious, inflammatory blepharitis includes administering to the affected eye of a subject an effective amount of an active ingredient in an ophthalmically acceptable vehicle for a sufficient period of time to treat the non-infectious, inflammatory blepharitis. Ophthalmic formulations including mycophenolic acid or salt thereof in an aqueous medium having a reduced level of dissolved oxygen and processes for making such formulations and using such formulations are disclosed.

Provided is concentrated aqueous azithromycin formulation from about from about 2%-20%, and a method of making a concentrated aqueous azithromycin formulation which includes preparing and sterilizing a first solution comprising a strong base to form a sterilized solution, dissolving the azithromycin in an aqueous solution comprising an acid consisting essentially of a strong acid, and adding the aqueous solution comprising the strong acid to the sterilized solution comprising the strong base. The strong acid has a pKa less than about &#x2212;1.74 and the method is carried out without addition or use of a weak acid.

Concentrated aqueous azalide formulations

A tip arrangement for a bottle used for dispensing viscous liquid, such as drops of medicine, is provided. Embodiments include a tip insert having an insert body and a piercing point at a lower end of the insert body, for piercing a top surface of the bottle and for retaining the tip insert on the top surface of the bottle after piercing. A passage extends from a distal end of the piercing point, through the insert body, to an opposing upper surface of the insert body. A dispensing tip at the insert body upper surface communicates with the passage for precisely forming drops of the liquid from the bottle.

An ophthalmically acceptable vehicle includes an aqueous suspension having a first viscosity. The suspension includes about 0.1% to about 6.5% by weight of a carboxyl-containing polymer prepared by polymerizing one or more carboxyl-containing monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and less than about 5% by weight of a cross-linking agent. The polymer has average particle size of not more than about 50 &#x3bc;m in equivalent spherical diameter. The vehicle includes a second polymer that allows the carboxyl-containing polymer to remain suspended. Upon contact with tear fluid, the vehicle gels to a second viscosity which is greater than the first viscosity. A method of administering a medicament to the eye of a subject includes applying a composition that includes this ophthalmically acceptable vehicle and a medicament contained for treatment of a disease or disorder for which ophthalmic delivery is indicated. The medicament is released from the vehicle in a sustained release manner.

Controlled-release ophthalmic vehicles

Electrospun fibers are utilized to improve the mechanical characteristics of a contact lens reducing the weight and mechanical strength of the polymers from which the lenses are typically formed. Electrospun fibers are also utilized as a drug delivery system, both through direct use in the eye and by inclusion of the fibers in a contact lens. The fibers are loaded with therapeutic drugs by a variety of methods and processed by coating and cross-linking the fibers.

Drug delivery system and methods of use

The present invention relates to formulations of concentrated azalide antibiotics and methods for making and using them. Specifically, the invention relates to a method of treating an infection comprising administering to a patient in need thereof, an effective amount of a concentrated aqueous azalide antibiotic formulation made according to the method comprising dissolving an azalide antibiotic in an aqueous solution comprising a strong acid. The invention also relates to methods for making concentrated aqueous azalide antibiotic formulations for use in pulmonary infection, a nasopharyngeal infection, an otic infection, an ocular infection, a dermal or a vaginal infection. The invention also relates to concentrated aqueous azalide antibiotic formulations made by dissolving an azalide antibiotic in an aqueous solution comprising a strong acid.

A drop dispenser has a substantially conical sleeve member with a narrow upper end and a wide lower end. Centrally located at the apex of the upper end of the sleeve member is an aperture which has an inner diameter and is circumscribed by a raised ridge. The aperture and the ridge form a nozzle. The interior space of the substantially conical sleeve member forms a substantially conical chamber between the narrow upper end and wide lower end of the sleeve member. The nozzle is in liquid communication with the chamber through the aperture. The drop dispenser may have external threads at the lower end of the sleeve member for engaging a cap having a protuberance centrally located at its internal top end for hermetically engaging the aperture of the nozzle when the cap fully engages the sleeve member.
