A tapered short tunnel for use on a tracked vehicle, such as a snowmobile. The tapered short tunnel has a tapered distal end having a width less than a width of an endless track used on the snowmobile. This tapered portion reduces the snowmobile from catching or grabbing snow in a snow trench, thereby enabling the snowmobile to traverse deeper snow.

The present invention generally relates to snowmobiles. More particularly, the present invention relates to the components of a snowmobile such as the frame, skis, motor, and endless belt assembly.

Snowmobile

A snowmobile includes a frame having side walls and a support platform. The side walls cooperate with the support platform to define a tunnel. The snowmobile further includes an endless belt assembly supported by the frame, a motor supported by the frame, and a running board removably coupled to the tunnel.

A snowmobile comprises a plurality of ground engaging members, a frame supported by the ground engaging members, and a powertrain assembly supported by the frame. The snowmobile further comprises a rear suspension assembly supported by the frame which includes a plurality of slide rails, at least one linear force element operably coupled to the slide rails, and at least one rear idler wheel operably coupled to the slide rails with a rear shaft. The rear shaft is operably coupled to the slide rails with a single fastener received into one end of the rear shaft.

A snowmobile includes a plurality of ground engaging members, a frame supported by the ground engaging members, and a powertrain assembly supported by the frame. Additionally, the snowmobile includes a front suspension assembly supported by the frame. The front suspension assembly includes an upper control arm operably coupled to the frame and a lower control arm operably coupled to the frame. The lower control arm is forged. At least a portion of the lower control arm includes an artificially-induced area of localized stress, and the lower control arm is configured to absorb energy at the area of localized stress.

A snowmobile includes a frame and a plurality of skis operably coupled to the frame. Each ski has an outer edge and a first width is defined between the outer edges of the skis. The snowmobile also includes a body assembly generally surrounding the frame. The body assembly includes a hood panel and fenders. A second width is defined between outermost surfaces of the fenders. The second width is less than the first width.

A snowmobile having a liquid-cooled engine with an improved cooling system is disclosed. The snowmobile has a chassis with a drive tunnel. Horizontal footrests extend laterally from opposite sides of the chassis. The snowmobile also has left and right elongate side coolers that dissipate heat generated by the engine. The side coolers have a hollow interior that is in fluid communication with liquid coolant passages in the engine. Each cooler extends longitudinally and is mounted at an outer edge of a respective footrest to form a footwell. The snowmobile has a pump that circulates coolant throughout the coolant circuit formed by the side coolers and the internal passages of the engine. The side coolers may also contain heat exchanging anti-skid studs that extend outward from the surface of each side cooler. The snowmobile may also contain front and rear heat exchangers connected within the coolant circuit and positioned at the front and rear ends of the tunnel, respectively.
