This invention provides a system and method for attaching a trim cover to a flexible/resilient substrate, typically constructed from foam, which includes a plurality of clips that each has a base molded into the substrate. The bases each include a central 'keyhole' slot that receives a corresponding key formed on a stem at a bottom of a clip projection. The clip projection defines a cavity for receiving a trim cover bead through a gap formed between a pair of legs that extend from the bottom. The stem has a length that is approximately the thickness of the slot. By passing the key through the slot and rotating the key to a locked position, the clip projection may be removably mounted to the substrate for repair or replacement as needed. The base may be constructed from a material that adheres effectively to the substrate, while the clip projection may be constructed from a material that exhibits high elasticity and wear-resistance. A cradle that includes a pair of upright posts that each confront a leg may be provided to progressively support the legs so as to prevent single point stresses from forming in the legs.

A method of molding reinforced polymer compositions using a molding machine with a tapered bore is provided. The method has particular application in molding polymer that is reinforced with particles having an aspect ratio that is greater than 1:1. The plunger machine used in the method includes a barrel housing with a smooth walled barrel with longitudinal fins projecting inwardly towards the center of the bore that defines a main melt chamber. A plunger housing, having a plunger bore, defines an initial melt chamber and is in communication with the main melt chamber. A plunger resides in the plunger bore and is reciprocatable therein. The barrel bore is continuously inwardly tapered and cooperates with the longitudinal fins to provide a shortened melt period and a smooth transition and alignment of reinforcing members within the polymer mixture during the melt process. The method of using a machine with a smooth bore and cooperating fins ensure substantial alignment of the reinforcement members with the longitudinal axis of the bore in the direction of the composition flow to avoid excessive breakage of the reinforcing particles and prepare the polymer mixture for extrusion into a mold assembly.

Method of molding using a plunger machine with a tapered bore

A plunger machine for molding reinforced polymer compositions is provided. The plunger machine has particular application in molding polymer that is reinforced with particles having an aspect ratio that is greater than 1:1. The plunger machine includes a barrel housing with a smooth walled barrel with longitudinal fins projecting inwardly towards the center of the bore that defines a main melt chamber. A plunger housing, having a plunger bore, defines an initial melt chamber and is in communication with the main melt chamber. A plunger resides in the plunger bore and is reciprocatable therein. Plunger molding machine with tapered bore and thermal transfer fins

A thermally conductive and electrically insulative polymer composition and a method for creating the same is provided. Thermally conductive filler material is coated with a thermally conductive and electrically insulative coating material and mixed with a base polymer matrix. The mixture is molded into the desired shape. The electrically insulative coating material prevents the transfer of electricity through the filler material thus resulting in an electrically insulative composition.

Polymer composition with boron nitride coated carbon flakes

A thermally conductive and electromagnetic interference and radio frequency reflective polymer composition and a method for creating the same is disclosed. Thermally conductive filler material is coated with a thermally conductive and electromagnetic interference and radio frequency reflective coating material and mixed with a base polymer matrix. The mixture is molded into the desired shape. The electromagnetic interference and radio frequency reflective coating material prevents the absorption and transfer of EMI and RF waves through the filler material thus resulting in an EMI and RF reflective composition.

Polymer composition with metal coated carbon flakes

A net-shape molded composite heat exchanger is provided which includes a plurality of thermally conductive fins overmolded onto one end of a metallic heat pipe for use both as an antenna in a cellular telephone and a heat exchanger to dissipate the heat generated within the device. The heat exchanger is formed by net-shape molding the fins over one end of the heat pipe, from a thermally conductive composition, such as a polymer composition. The molded heat exchanger is freely convecting through the part, which makes it more efficient and has an optimal thermal configuration. In addition, the metallic heat pipe serves the additional function of conducting radio frequency waves to and from the cellular telephone device.
