Provided herein are novel and improved weight coating systems suitable for use with pipes, particularly pipes that are submerged in liquid, such as water, in environments including oceans, seas, marshes, lakes and rivers. The novel coating systems provided herein comprise an aggregate and a polyurethane binder, wherein the polyurethane binder is a two-component composition comprising an isocyanate component and an iso-cyanate-reactive component. The coating systems provided have increased durability, as well as flexibility allowing for efficiencies related to transportation, storage, use and resistance to corrosive effects. Furthermore, the coating systems are cost effective and have minimal or zero impact on the environments in which they are utilized.

Pipe weight coating

A wood composite article includes a plurality of wood pieces and an adhesive system disposed on or dispersed among the plurality of wood pieces for bonding the plurality of wood pieces. The adhesive system includes a binder component and a fiber component. The binder component comprises a thermosetting plastic component such as unsaturated polyesters, epoxy, polyurea, polyurethane or combinations thereof, including for example, an isocyanate compound and an isocyanate-reactive component. The composite article may be formed into various objects such as railroad ties, fencing and the like.

Wood composite articles

A coating, system comprises 30 to 90 parts by weight of a bioresin component and 10 to 70 parts by weight of an isocyanate component, based on 100 parts by weight of the coating system, and has a percent solids of greater than 60%. The bioresin component comprises an acrylic polymer and a biopolyol formed from a natural oil. A method of forming a coating on a substrate with the coating system comprises the steps of combining the bioresin component and the isocyanate component to form a reaction mixture having a percent solids of greater than 60 percent, applying the reaction mixture onto the substrate, and curing the reaction mixture to form the coating on the substrate.

Coating system

A system for forming an elastomeric composition for application to a substrate includes an isocyanate component and an isocyanate-reactive component. The isocyanate component includes a polymeric polyisocyanate and optionally an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer. The isocyanate-reactive component is reactive with the isocyanate component and includes a polyol component and a polyetheramine. The polyol component is a mixture of (a) a hydrophobic polyol; (b) a polyether polyol different than the hydrophobic polyol and having a weight average molecular weight greater than 500 g/mol; and (c) a polyaminopolyol. The elastomeric composition is formed as the reaction product of the isocyanate component and the isocyanate-reactive component and may be applied as an elastomeric coating layer on a substrate such as a steel pipe. The steel pipe having the applied elastomeric coating layer satisfies the standard for use in the water supply industry as set forth in AWWA C222.

System for forming elastomeric compositions for application to metal

A hot melt adhesive (HMA), which is solid at room temperature, comprises the reaction product of 5 to 25% by weight of an isocyanate component having an NCO content of from about 20 to about 50% by weight, 75 to 85% by weight of a polyester, and 1 to 10% by weight of a hydroxy-polymer having an OH number of from about 40 to about 50. A method of forming the adhesive comprises the step of combining the isocyanate component, polyester, and hydroxy-polymer to form the adhesive. The adhesive can be used for various purposes, such as for forming an adhesive layer which adhesively couples surfaces together.

Hot melt adhesive and method of forming the same

Coating composition comprising (a) radiation curable component that polymerizes upon exposure to actinic radiation comprising at least two functional groups comprising at least one bond that is activatable upon exposure to actinic radiation, optionally, at least one isocyanate-reactive functional group, and optionally, at least one hydroxyl-reactive functional group; (a) thermally curable binder component that polymerizes upon exposure to heat comprising at least two functional groups that are reactive with functional groups of component (a), wherein at least 5% by weight based on a nonvolatile weight of component (a) is component (X) that is a polymer with at least two functional groups (a), a Tg of less than 0&#xb0; C., and an equivalent weight of greater than 225; (a) thermally curable crosslinking component comprising at least two functional groups that are reactive with functional groups of (a); and (a) optionally, at least one reactive diluent.

Dual radiation/thermal cured coating composition

The coating composition comprises a radiation curable component (a1), a thermally curable binder component (a2), a thermally curable crosslinking component (a3), and optionally, one or more reactive diluents (a4). Radiation curable component (a1) is polymerizable upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation and comprises at least two functional groups (a11) comprising at least one bond activatable with electromagnetic radiation. Thermally curable binder component (a2) is polymerizable upon exposure to heat and has at least two functional groups (a21) which are reactive with functional groups (a31). Third component (a3) comprises at least 2.0 functional groups (a31) which are reactive with functional groups (a21). The value of UV/TH, the nonvolatile weight ratio of the sum of radiation curable component (a1) and optional reactive diluent (a4) to the sum of thermally curable binder component (a2) and thermally curable crosslinking component (a3) is from 0.20 to 0.60. Also disclosed are coated surfaces having both optimum porosity sealing and adhesion.
