A capacitor assisted battery module includes a first diode including an anode and a cathode. A second diode includes an anode and a cathode. The anode of the first diode is connected to the cathode of the second diode at a first node. A first capacitor assisted battery (CAB) block includes a positive terminal, a negative terminal and N CABs, where N is an integer greater than zero. The positive terminal of the first CAB block is connected to the cathode of the first diode. A second capacitor assisted battery (CAB) block includes a positive terminal, a negative terminal and N CABs, wherein the negative terminal of the second CAB block is connected to the anode of the second diode. The negative terminal of the first CAB block and the positive terminal of the second CAB block are connected to a second node.

An electrical connector is provided. The electrical connector includes a first housing having an outer surface and a second housing configured to receive the first housing, wherein the second housing includes an inner surface configured to contact the outer surface of the first housing. The electrical connector also includes a plurality of sensors configured to monitor a contact between the inner surface and the outer surface and a controller in communication with the plurality of sensors, wherein the controller is configured to determine a position of the first housing relative to the second housing.

A vehicle includes an electrical system for balancing a state of charge in a battery pack. The electrical system includes a plurality of module groups. A switch array includes a plurality of switches. Each switch is coupled to a respective module group. The switch can be in one of a first state that connects the module group to a first low voltage bus, a second state that connects the module group to a second low voltage bus, and a third state in which the module group is disconnected from both the first low voltage bus and the second low voltage bus. The array is placed in a first phase of a mode of operation with at least one switch in one of the first state and the second state and cycles through the phases of the mode to balance a charge between the plurality of module groups.

A method is provided that includes determining whether to perform a load shed operation for a vehicle. The method further includes responsive to determining to perform the load shed operation, issuing a command to a device to perform the load shed operation. The method further includes determining whether the device performed the load shed operation. The method further includes responsive to determining that the device failed to perform the load shed operation, opening a relay associated with the device to prevent power from being delivered to the device.

A reconfigurable connector system for distributing power between an input power source and a cable harness connector having M cable harness terminals includes an energy center module (ECM) and a connecting adapter. The ECM has a module housing, a PCB having more than M pin holes, a plurality of e-fuses connected with the pin holes, a controller connected with the e-fuses, and an input connector connected to the controller and/or the e-fuses. The connecting adapter has a body with first and second sides and M bridging adapters within the body. Each bridging adapter includes a first connection point accessible from the first side and configured to be directly connectable with a cable harness terminal, one or more second connection points accessible from the second side and configured to be connectable with a pin hole, and a busbar connecting the first connection point with the one or more second connection points.

A vehicle, electrical system of the vehicle, and a method of detecting a fault occurring in the electrical system. The electrical system includes an electronic control unit, a sensor configured to obtain a measurement of a parameter of the electronic control unit, and a processor. The processor is configured to determine a parasitic load at the electronic control unit from the measurement of the parameter, identify a type of fault occurring at the electronic control unit due to the parasitic load based on the measurement, and perform an action at the electrical system based on the type of fault.

Examples described herein provide a method for predicting electrical failures within a vehicle. The method includes selectively enabling and disabling an electrical load for the vehicle. The method further includes collecting operational data about the electrical load during the selectively enabling and disabling of the electrical load. The method further includes training the model based at least in part on the operational data to predict a failure associated with the electrical load or a wiring harness associated with the electrical load.

The system includes a battery pack including a plurality of battery cells, a negative terminal including a chassis ground connection, and a plurality of positive battery pack terminals. The system further includes a battery cell switching system, including a plurality of solid-state switches connected to each of the battery cells. The plurality of solid-state switches is operable to selectively connect a portion of the battery cells in parallel, selectively connect the portion of the battery cells in series, and selectively connect one of the plurality of battery cells to one of the plurality of positive battery pack terminals.

System and method for modular dynamically adjustable capacity storage

A vehicle, arc fault protection device of the vehicle and a method for mitigating an arc fault in an electrical system of the vehicle. The arc fault protection device includes a sensor, a switch, and a processor. The sensor is used for measuring a current in an electrical system. The processor is configured to determine a precursor phase of an arc fault from the current, wherein the precursor phase indicates an onset of an arc flash phase of the arc fault. The processor opens the switch to mitigate the arc fault during the arc flash phase.

Apparatus and method for arc fault protection

A system in a vehicle includes a first fuse connected between a power source and a load. The first fuse is an electronic fuse (eFuse) to disconnect the load from the power source via the first fuse based on opening a first fuse switch. The system also includes a second fuse connected between the power source and the load via a second fuse switch. The first fuse and the second fuse are part of a cluster of fuses. A controller opens the first fuse switch and keeps the second fuse switch closed based on the vehicle entering a key-off mode in which the vehicle is turned off.

The electrical system includes a battery, an electrical load that draws power from the battery, a switch between the battery and the electrical load, and a processor. A battery clamp system for a battery includes a terminal receiving portion configured to be coupled to a terminal of the battery. The battery clamp system includes an anti-rotation projection coupled to the terminal receiving portion. The anti-rotation projection is configured to be coupled to the battery. The anti-rotation projection extends along an axis that is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the battery clamp system. The battery clamp system includes a first flange coupled to the terminal receiving portion that extends along a first flange axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The battery clamp system includes a second flange coupled to the terminal receiving portion so as to be spaced apart from the first flange. The first flange is configured to cooperate with the second flange to couple the terminal receiving portion to the battery.

A vehicle system is provided and includes a modular dynamically allocated capacity storage system (MODACS) and an active management module. The MODACS includes blocks of cells. The active management module is configured to: detect a first state of a first block of cells of the blocks of cells; determine whether a safety fault condition exists with the first block of cells based on the first state of the first block of cells; in response to detecting existence of the safety fault condition, isolate the first block of cells from other ones of the blocks of cells; subsequent to isolating the first block of cells, actively discharge and detect a second state of the first block of cells; and based on the second state, continue isolating the first block of cells or reconnecting the first block of cells such that the first block of cells is no longer isolated.
