There are provided methods for predicting timing advance (TA) with respect to a base station. According to some embodiments, the method includes determining, by a user equipment (UE), a set of TAs, each TA corresponding to a particular distance from the base station and measuring, by the UE, a set of instances of a power metric, each instance of the power metric associated with a respective distance from the base station. The method further includes determining, by the UE, a set of differences between each of the instances of the power metric and determining, by the UE, a new TA at least in part using the set of TAs and the set of differences.

Method and apparatus for timing advance prediction

A photonic device configured to perform matrix vector multiplication operations at high frequencies is provided. The vector being multiplied by the matrix is defined by vector components at specific wavelengths. The device includes a first waveguide and a second waveguide. A series of tunable microring resonators (MRRs) are coupled to the first waveguide and to a respective series of passive delay rings (PDRs), which are coupled to the second waveguide. Each MRR/PDR pair defines a tunable matrix component (tunable weight) for a respective wavelength component of the vector. A series of controllable delay elements (CDEs) such as all-pass filters are coupled to the first waveguide, upstream from the tunable MRRs. Any tuning dependent group delay caused by the MRR/PDR pairs can be compensated by controlling the CDEs such that each wavelength components has substantially a same delay as the other wavelength components.

Systems and methods to maintain phase relations of an optical signal in a photonic dot product engine

A methods and apparatuses for supporting device-to-device (D2D) communication in a wireless network is provided. According to embodiments, during a period where a D2D device 1 (D1) and a D2D device 2 (D2) are available for active D2D communications therebetween and when D2 identifies a need for a second communication with at least one of a base station or a different D2D device, the method includes transmitting, by D2, a D2D communication not available message (DNAM) to D1. The DNAM indicates that one or both of D1 and D2 are unavailable for active D2D communications therebetween. Upon receipt of the DNAM by D1, the method further includes transitioning, by D1, to a listening mode for receiving at least a D2D communication available message (DAM) from D2. The DAM indicates that D1 and D2 are available for active D2D communications therebetween.

Methods and systems for low complexity interference cancellation in multichannel optical transmission. Local or self-iteration is performed one or more times between an expected propagation decision feedback equalizer and a soft demapper. Following local iteration, a soft decision forward error correction decoder determines bit log-likelihood ratios, which are fed back to the expected propagation decision feedback equalizer and soft demapper for further self-iteration. Global iteration involving the decoder can also be performed one or more times before a bitstream is decoded.

System and method for interference cancellation in optical transmission

There is provided a method and user equipment that enable the evaluation of the validity of a timing advance known to a UE for enabling the UE to transmit using preconfigured uplink resources (PUR). The method includes receiving data enabling determination of a measured change in a reference signal received power by a UE. The UE subsequently determines if the measured change in the RSRP is less than a positive change threshold. If the determination is true, the UE proceeds with the transmission using PUR. In some embodiments, prior to proceeding with the transmission, the UE further evaluates or determines if the measured change in the RSRP is greater than a negative change threshold. The UE will subsequently use PUR for the transmission only if the measured change in the RSRP is greater than a negative change threshold.

Method and apparatus for time advance validation using reference signal received power

A receiver architecture is described for phase noise compensation in the presence of inter-channel interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI), particularly for time-frequency packing (TFP) transmissions. The receiver includes a coarse phase noise (PN) estimator, a PN compensation module, an ICI cancellation module, an ISI compensation module, a FEC decoder, and an iterative PN estimator. The iterative PN estimator receives log likelihood ratio (LLR) information from the decoder and provides an iterative PN estimation to the PN compensation module. The decoder also provides LLR to the ISI compensation module, and to at least one other receiver for another subchannel that is immediately adjacent in frequency. The ICI cancellation module receives decoder output from at least one adjacent subchannel, which the ICI cancellation module uses to provide a ICI-cancelled signal.

Systems and methods for phase noise mitigation in optical superchannels

The present disclosure provides a grant free state for user equipment, for example a machine type communication (MTC) UE. There is provided a method for transitioning a state of a User Equipment (UE). The method includes determining, by the UE, if data is to be sent and transitioning, by the UE, to a grant free state when no data is to be sent, wherein transitioning to the grant free state includes receiving a grant free identifier (GF-ID). In some embodiments, the method further includes in accordance with a determination that an amount of data to be sent is below a threshold, transmitting, by the UE, the data together with the GF-ID. In addition, user equipment and base transceiver stations are provided each of which include a processor and memory having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by the processor configure the respective UE or BTS to perform the respective methods.

Methods and apparatuses for user equipment access to a wireless communication system

The disclosed systems, structures, and methods are directed to a superposition based transceiver. The configurations presented herein employ a plurality of encoders configured to encode a plurality of input digital data streams, wherein each of the plurality of input digital data streams operates at different data rates, a plurality of modulators configured to modulate the plurality of encoded digital data input streams. In addition, a plurality of transmitter filters configured to perform up-sampling and filtering of the plurality of modulated digital data streams, and a signal mixer configured to combine the plurality of up-sampled and filtered digital data streams into a single aggregate digital data stream in a manner such that the single aggregate digital data stream contains spectral characteristics that substantially conform to both a central area and a skirt area of a unified spectral emission mask, as specified by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

Superposition-based transceiver apparatus for efficient spectrum utilization in microwave backhaul links

A method and apparatus for using enhanced PSS (ePSS) transmitted from a base station, for example an eNB, for use by UEs for resynchronization of the UE with the base station is disclosed. According to some embodiments, when resynchronization using the ePSS fails on the first attempt, the UE non-coherently or coherently combines the ePSS with the legacy PSS/SSS in order to resynchronize the UE with the base station. According to some embodiments, when resynchronization using the ePSS fails on the first attempt, the UE non-coherently or coherently combines the ePSS reception results with the legacy PSS/SSS reception results in order to resynchronize the UE with the base station.

There may be second phase rotators configured to apply phase rotation after the adaptive feedforward filtering stage so as to produce the output signals for forwarding to the data decoding stage.

Methods and systems for interference mitigation in a dual-polarized communication system

A method and system for facilitating operational adjustment of a User Equipment (UE) to a Long Term Evolution (LTE) cell serviced by an evolved NodeB (eNB). The eNB transmits a burst of multiple signals, each indicative of a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS), and transmitted within a predetermined time frame. The UE, receives at least one signal of the burst, decodes the PSS based on the received at least one signal, and performs the operational adjustment based on the decoded PSS. The operational adjustment can include performing synchronization of the UE to the LTE cell and/or acquiring symbol timing of the LTE cell.

Method and system for providing and using enhanced primary synchronization signal for LTE

Systems and methods are disclosed that attempt to increase spectral efficiency by using Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission. In one embodiment, a method at a transmitter includes partitioning bits into K bit streams, obtaining K power scaled symbol streams, combining the K power scaled symbol streams to obtain a stream of transmission symbols, and transmitting the stream of transmission symbols using FTN signaling. At the receiver, the received symbols are partitioned into K symbol streams, and demodulation and decoding is performed by: (i) demodulating and decoding the Ksymbol stream of the K symbol streams to obtain a Kset of bits; (ii) mapping the Kset of bits to a Kset of symbols; and (iii) for each one of k=K&#x2212;1, . . . , 1: demodulating and decoding a ksymbol stream of the K symbol streams to obtain a kset of bits. The demodulating and decoding includes performing interference cancellation.

System and method for Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission

Systems and methods of precoded faster than Nyquist (FTN) signalling are provided. In the transmitter, Tomlinson-Harashima Preceding (THP) is applied to produce precoded symbols. The THP is based on inter-symbol interference (ISI) due to using faster than Nyquist (FTN) signalling. An inverse modulo operation is not performed in the receiver. Instead, in the receiver, FTN processing is performed based on a matched filter output by determining log a-posteriori probability ratio LAPPR values computed for an nbit bof a kreceived symbol and pre-computed a-priori probabilities of an extended constellation for a given pulse shape h(t) and FTN acceleration factor combination.
