A method and system for diagnosing, treating, and ameliorating sleep bruxism events using a positive airway pressure (PAP) system for treating obstructive sleep apnea to concurrently recognize bruxism events. At least one sensor is integrated into a therapy interface and/or headgear to detect physiological signals indicative of bruxism. In some exemplary embodiments, a loudspeaker and microphone are integrated into the interface, either near the nose or near the mouth of the patient. When integrated near the nose, the pair is used for acoustical rhinometry, and when integrated near the mouth, the pair is used for acoustical pharyngometry. In other exemplary embodiments, sound or vibration sensors are used to detect signals indicative of teeth grinding. In response to sensor detection of bruxism activity, the PAP system controller adjusts the PAP therapy settings or proposes alternative treatment modalities in order to stop or prevent bruxism events.

Diagnosis and treatment for OSA-related bruxism

The invention provides a mouthpiece for dental cleaning system and the dental cleaning system itself. The mouthpiece has a base and inner and outer arches. An actuator is for applying motion to the inner arch and/or the outer arch, relative to the base. A coupling arrangement converts motion of one of the inner and outer arches in one direction relative to the base to motion in an opposite direction relative to the base of the other of the inner and outer arches. By forming the mouthpiece as a central stationary base enveloped by two contour-following and moving arches, an anti-phase brushing motion at opposite tooth sites along the tooth arch is enabled, giving increased reach toward the molars as well as a reduction in device vibration in the mouth.

Provided is a brush head for an oral cleaning device for cleaning teeth with a combination of brushing and emitting of a cleaning agent. The brush head comprises a bristle set for brushing the teeth and a nozzle for emitting the cleaning agent. When actuating the bristle set from a first configuration, which is optimized for brushing, to a second configuration, which is optimized for emitting of a cleaning agent, at least a part of the bristle 5 set is moved away from the nozzle and/or away from a path of the cleaning agent when being emitted from an orifice of the nozzle.

The present invention relates to devices and methods for uptaking and analyzing sweat from a skin of a user. In particular, it is proposed to provide a variability in the size of the sweat sensor inlets (), which can be used for improving the determination of sweat parameters like for example determining the number of active sweat glands The variability in the size of the inlets () with which the sweat sensor () uptakes the sweat from the user's skin () can be achieved by having either plurality of inlets wherein at least some of them have different opening sizes and to use the differently sized inlets based in different situations. Alternatively, one or more inlets may have openings with variable cross-sectional area, like e.g. an adjustable diameter of their opening, and also a combination of these two alternatives is of course possible. A processor of the sweat sensor may use the information from either all or only the most appropriate sized inlets to determine a sweat parameter. In another alternative, the processor may adapt the inlet to the adjustable inlet opening to the most appropriate size to then determine a sweat parameter of interest.

Sweat sensor

There is provided a controller for use with an oral care device; wherein the controller is configured to estimate the location of the oral care device relative to an interdental space in a mouth using predetermined data and current use data, the current use data relating to at least one of: actions of the user during use of the oral care device, operations of the oral care device; and generate a control signal based on the outcome of the estimation. There is also provided an oral care system and a kit of parts, and a computer implemented method for an oral care device.

A sweat sensing system comprises a mesh for location over a sweat surface on which sweat is formed or collected, and a vibration system for vibrating the mesh to nebulize sweat droplets. The nebulized sweat droplets are condensed on a sensing surface, and a sweat sensor performs biomarker sensing of the sweat at the sensing surface.

The invention provides for an oral treatment unit, or an assembly of a plurality of oral treatment units, for confining an electromagnetic field having a frequency in the range of 100 kHz to 300 MHz and adapted to be inserted into an oral cavity, which may form part of an oral cleaning device in combination with a base unit, including a first cleaning element coupled to the oral treatment unit. A further aspect of the invention provides for an oral treatment unit, or an assembly of a plurality of oral treatment units, for confining and modulating an electromagnetic field having a frequency in the range of 1 MHz to 300 GHz and adapted to be inserted into the mouth, which may form part of an oral cleaning device in combination with a base unit, including a first cleaning element coupled to the oral treatment unit. The oral treatment unit further comprises an electromagnetic field focusing element adapted to receive an electromagnetic field having an initial frequency and output a focused electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field focusing element comprises a first material structure having a first passive electromagnetic field focusing function, which confines the modulated electromagnetic field at a given distance from the first material structure by performing one or more of: an attenuation rate control function in the near-field region of the first material structure; or a propagation direction modification function on the electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field focusing element has a modulation function that modulates the confined electromagnetic field, thereby generating a modulated electromagnetic field.

Oral treatment device

A personal care device () comprising an RF signal generator () for generating RF-frequency electromagnetic emissions for a cleaning or treatment function. The RF emissions may be output from a set of two or more RF electrodes () (e.g. electrodes) upon stimulation with an RF drive signal in a frequency range from 3 kHz to 30 GHz from an RF signal generator. The device further includes a controller () for detect a degraded functional state of the RF electrodes () via monitoring changes or variations in one or more electrical characteristics of the RF signal generator (), e.g. drift in one or more electrical characteristics from reference factory levels, or sudden changes in the characteristics, indicating a short-circuit. A response action can be generated based on the electrical characteristics meeting pre-defined criteria indicative of a certain degraded functional status, for example generating a sensory alert for a user or data output, or performing remedial action such as deactivating sensed defective or worn electrodes.

According to an aspect, there is provided switch circuitry () for controlling power supplied to a fluid monitoring unit (). The switch circuitry () comprises: a sensor () configured to detect fluid derived from the skin of a user and to generate a detection signal in response to detection of fluid; and a controller () configured to receive the detection signal, to generate a wake-up signal in accordance with the detection signal, and to supply the wake-up signal to a switch () controlling the power supply to the fluid monitoring unit () so as to activate the switch () and wake the fluid monitoring unit (), wherein, optionally, the fluid is sweat. A triboelectric energy generator () comprises a first generating element () and a second generating element (). An energy conversion system comprises a generator which generates electrical power in response to movement, wherein the generator comprises first and second elements which generate energy in an energy generation mode. In some examples, these can be brought into and out of contact with each other by a drive mechanism so that the energy conversion system has an (e.g.) intermittent charging mode in which the first and second 5 elements are brought into contact by the drive mechanism and an energy generation mode in which the first and second elements are out of contact. The relative speed, the spacing between, or the relative orientations or positions of the first and second elements are controlled during the energy generation mode to decrease the variation in output power or voltage of the generator. This system controls the physical positions or the motion of the 10 elements of the generator during the energy generation mode in order to implement a more constant power or voltage generation. This enables any required power conversion circuitry to be simplified.

Energy conversion system and method

A device for treating skin includes a skin treatment member, a skin contacting surface, a mounting member for mounting the skin treatment member and the skin contacting surface, and a friction controlling device to control friction between the skin contacting surface and skin to be treated, in at least one controlled friction area of the skin contacting surface when the skin contacting surface is moved over the skin. The friction controlling device introduces a slip motion of the controlled friction area relative to the mounting member in a direction corresponding to a local direction of extension of the skin contacting surface. The device also includes a sensor for detecting a first parameter related to an amount of friction between the skin contacting surface and the skin during use, and the friction controlling device controls a second parameter of the slip motion in dependence on a value of the first parameter.
