Apparatus for the hygienic preparation of medical instruments

A cassette for the acceptance of medical instruments, and preferably dental instruments, to enable a hygienic treatment of the instruments when the cassette is placed into a chamber of an apparatus that is capable of being closed pressure-tight. The cassette contains at least one adapter for holding at least one instrument. The adapter will have line channels for the delivery of treatment agents to the interior of the instrument and the adapter can contain a control valve that will close the line channels given an adapter not occupied with an instrument.

A valve arrangement for controlling a suction stream in a dental suction system, wherein the valve controlling the flow contains a closure element that defines a valve space on one side and a control space on the opposite side. The closure element, such as a membrane, is urged closed when the pressure in the control space is greater than the pressure in the valve space and the movement of the closure element is obtained by actuation of various control valves which control flow in effective lines extending to the control space, which lines have different effective cross sections so as to control the amount of movement of the closure element toward the closed position.

A dental handpiece is provided with a gripping sleeve, which receives a base member arrangement composed of either a single piece or multi-pieces. The base member having bearing arrangements for supporting a drive shaft section, which is engageable with the drive shaft of a motor and has an arrangement for guiding various agent lines, such as water, air or light or electrical power on the outer surface of the base member within the interior of the sleeve. The outer sleeve is free of holding and guide elements for the agent lines and the gripping sleeve can be firmly clamped onto the base member or can be clamped to the base member with interposed elastic vibration-dampening elements.
