Radio frequency front-end systems with filter reuse. In certain embodiments, a front-end system includes a filter, a low noise amplifier (LNA), and a switch interposed between the filter and an input to the LNA. In a first state of the switch, the filter serves to filter a radio frequency signal that is amplified by the LNA. The front-end system further includes a power amplifier that is coupled to the switch. Additionally, in a second state of the switch, the filter serves to filter an amplified radio frequency transmit signal provided by the power amplifier. Accordingly, a filter along a receive path of the front-end system is reused for transmit.

Filter reuse in radio frequency front-ends

Ultrahigh band (UHB) architectures for radio frequency (RF) front-ends are disclosed. In certain embodiments, an RF front-end for a mobile device includes a first ultrahigh band transmit/receive module connected to a first antenna, a second ultrahigh band transmit/receive module connected to the first antenna, and a first ultrahigh band receive module connected to a second antenna. The first ultrahigh band transmit/receive module is further connected to the second antenna by way of an auxiliary input of the first ultrahigh band receive module.

Ultrahigh band architecture for radio frequency front-ends

The radio frequency front-end systems herein include modules having bandwidth controllable components, such as amplifier and filters. By implementing the modules with bandwidth control, the same module can be used for operation of multiple frequency bands including a first frequency band and a second frequency band. Thus, when implementing features such as carrier aggregation, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and/or sounding resource signaling (SRS) for supporting the multiple frequency bands, the total number of modules used can be reduced and/or additional feature support can be provided compared to an implementation in which each module supports a single frequency band.

Broadband architectures for radio frequency front-ends

An apparatus and method reduce distortion in a processed signal. The apparatus includes a first receive path, a second receive path, a summation unit, and a compensation unit. The first receive path is configured to process a received analog signal into a first digital signal. The second receive path is configured to process the received analog signal with a phase shift into a second digital signal. The summation unit is configured to sum the first and second digital signals to form a processed digital signal. The compensation unit is configured to identify a conjugate of the processed digital signal, apply a weighting factor to the conjugate of the processed digital signal to form a weighted signal, and subtract the weighted signal from the processed digital signal to reduce the distortion.

Digital I/Q imbalance compensation in a quadrature receiver

An apparatus and method cancel transmitter leakage. The method includes generating a leakage cancelation signal by processing a downconverted signal for cancelation of a leakage signal caused by a transmitter and upconverting the downconverted signal to a radio frequency of the transmitter. The method also includes canceling at least some of the leakage signal in a received signal using the leakage cancelation signal.

An RF transmitter comprises a digital-to-IF circuit block configured to receive a digital in-phase baseband signal and a digital quadrature baseband signal and to up-convert the digital in-phase and quadrature baseband signals to a digital in-phase IF signal and to a digital quadrature IF signal. The wireless RF transmitter further comprises an IF-to-RF circuit block configured to convert the digital in-phase and quadrature IF signals to analog signals and to up-convert the analog in-phase and quadrature IF signals to an RF output signal. The digital-to-IF circuit block comprises pre-compensation circuitry configured to reduce analog impairments associated with the IF-to-RF circuit block.

An apparatus for envelope tracking calibration for use in a wireless communication is provided. The apparatus includes a transmission signal path configured to carry a transmission signal to an antenna. An envelope signal path configured to feed an envelope signal with an envelope tracking power amplifier. A controller is configured to transmit a normal envelope signal being generated in a normal operation mode and measure a first Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio (ACLR) corresponding to the normal envelope signal. The controller is further configured to transmit a comparison envelope signal being generated in a comparison operation mode and measure a second ACLR corresponding to the comparison envelope signal. The controller is configured to calculate a time misalignment between the transmission signal path and the envelope signal path based on a difference between the first and second ACLRs.

Apparatus and method for enveloping tracking calibration

An apparatus and method for mixed signal spread spectrum receiving and spectrum aggregation in a receiver having at least one antenna respectively receiving at least one signal are provided. The method includes modulating the at least one signal received by the receiver with at least one unique orthogonal pseudorandom (PN) code, downconverting the at least one modulated signal into at least one baseband signal, combining the at least baseband signal into an overlaid baseband signal and filtering the overlaid baseband signal, converting the overlaid baseband signal from an analog signal into a digital baseband signal, splitting the digital baseband signal into a plurality of signal paths each having the entirety of the digital baseband signal, applying one of the at least one unique orthogonal PN code to each of the plurality of signal paths, and multiplexing the plurality of signal paths into a combined digital baseband signal.

Apparatus and method for mixed signal spread spectrum receiving technique

A reconfigurable wireless transceiver and method of use are disclosed. As one example, a reconfigurable wireless transceiver is disclosed, which includes a transmitter unit, a plurality of receiver units, and a processing unit coupled to the plurality of receiver units. A first receiver unit of the plurality of receiver units receives a first signal at a first frequency, and determines a strength level of the first signal. A second receiver unit of the plurality of receiver units searches for a second signal at a second frequency, detects the second signal at the second frequency, and determines a strength level of the detected second signal. The processing unit determines if the strength level of the detected second signal is greater than a predetermined value, and enables the second receiver unit to receive a third signal at substantially the second frequency, if the strength level of the detected second signal is greater than the predetermined value. The predetermined value may be substantially equal to the signal strength of the received first signal, and the third signal may be associated with over-the-air programming or tasking. As a second example, a method for reconfiguring a wireless transceiver is disclosed, which includes receiving a first signal in a first frequency band, determining a signal strength of the received signal, searching for a second signal in a second frequency band, detecting the second signal, determining a signal strength of the detected second signal, comparing the signal strength of the received first signal with a predetermined signal strength value, and enabling reception of the detected second signal and disabling reception of the first signal, if the signal strength of the detected second signal is greater than the predetermined signal strength value.

Reconfigurable wireless transceiver

An apparatus and method amplify a signal for use in a wireless network. The apparatus includes a power amplifier, an envelope modulator, a tunable matching network (TMN), and a controller. The power amplifier outputs the signal at an output power. The envelope modulator controls a bias setting for the power amplifier. The TMN includes a plurality of immittance elements. The controller is operably connected the envelope modulator and the TMN. The controller identifies a desired value for the output power of the power amplifier, controls the output power of the power amplifier by modifying the bias setting of the power amplifier, and sets a number of the plurality of immittance elements based on the bias setting of the power amplifier.
