A screed assembly for a paving machine is disclosed. The screed assembly includes a screed plate having a front edge, a first plate positioned in front of the front edge of the screed plate. The first plate defining having a first thickness. A temperature sensor is coupled to the first plate. The temperature sensor is configured to determine a temperature of a paving material, whereby the temperature of the paving material is measured before the paving material comes into contact with the screed plate.

A paving machine for wide-width paving includes a conveyor system, an auger system disposed adjacent to the conveyor system, a screed adjacent to the auger system, and sensing circuitry configured to sense paving material height at one or more of an entrance to the conveyor system and a front side of the auger system to sense or detect underflow or overflow conditions of the paving material. The sensed heights are communicated to control circuitry of the paving machine, through signals from the sensing circuitry, and control circuitry controls rate of movement of one or more of the conveyor system and the auger system.

The extension screed may include a deflector and a material bypass prevention plate affixed to the extension screed. Sensors sense a respective configuration parameter indicative of the configuration of the screed assembly. The controller is configured to recall one of the first set or second set of parameters, and adjust automatically the configuration of the screed assembly to correspond to the configuration parameters included in the recalled first set or second set of parameters.

A height adjustment system for a paving screed apparatus and a method for adjusting the height of the endgates of a screed system are disclosed. In a disclosed system, the system includes an endgate coupled to a biasing element, such as a spring or a hydraulic cylinder and rod. The biasing element is coupled to an actuator. The actuator is linked to a controller. The biasing element is moveable between a compressed position and an extended position with a setpoint range disposed between the compressed and extended positions. The biasing element is also associated with a sensor for measuring vertical displacement of the biasing element, pressure or load on the biasing element with respect to the setpoint range.

Asphalt paving machine includes screed assembly, plurality of lower and upper plate fasteners, and upper and lower screed plates, each having openings, and an electric heater at least partially disposed between the plates. Upper and lower plate fasteners extend into openings of the respective upper and lower screed plates and bores of a frame portion of the screed assembly to couple the plates to the frame portion. A tamper bar mechanism includes a drive shaft with an eccentric section on the shaft. A tamper drive member is driven by the eccentric section and drives a tamper bar between an upper position and a lower position to define a tamper stroke length. A stroke adjustment link is operatively connected to the tamper drive member and a stroke adjustment mechanism is operatively connected to the stroke adjustment link to adjust an angular orientation of the stroke adjustment link relative to the path of travel of the tamper bar and adjust a length of the tamper stroke length. An apparatus and method for controlling a work tool on a work machine are provided. The work machine may have first and second actuators, each actuator being operable in a vibratory mode and a non-vibratory mode, and each actuator being coupled to the work tool for changing the position of the work tool. The method may include simultaneously (i) operating the first actuator in a vibratory mode, (ii) operating the second actuator in a vibratory mode, and (iii) receiving a command to change the position of the work tool. The method may further include operating the first actuator in a non-vibratory mode to change the position of the work tool while operating the second actuator in a vibratory mode to vibrate the work tool, in response to receiving the command.
