A system for use with an electric machine is provided. The system includes a processor and a memory comprising a set of memory modules, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform certain operations. The operations include receiving operational data from the electric machine, and generating, based on the operational data, a first set of diagnostic data, by executing a first memory module from the set of memory modules. The operations further include generating, based on the operational data, a second set of diagnostic data, by executing a second memory module from the set of memory modules, the second memory module including a set of parameters associated with a diagnostics model of the electric machine. Furthermore, the operations include effecting, based on the operational data, the first set of diagnostic data, and the second set of diagnostic data, a change in at least one parameter.

Provided is an electric machine health monitoring system that includes an electric machine, a data acquisition component, a local transmitter, a communications network, and a remote diagnostic unit that is configured to receive the time sequenced operational information, asset performance, and health status indicators from a local transmitter. Certain embodiments of the present invention relates to a method for controlling operation of a parallel converter system. The parallel converter system includes multiple parallel power converters, and each of the parallel power converters is coupleable to a corresponding controller. The method includes: generating, via each of the controllers, a channel reference signal, transmitting each of the generated channel reference signals to a corresponding one of the parallel power converters, and adjusting an output current of each of the parallel converters responsive to the corresponding channel reference signals received, the adjusting controlling a combined output current of the parallel converter system. The channel reference signals of these parallel power converters are generated in response to the participation factors of each of the parallel power converters, and a net converter output reference current.

A method of balancing voltages in a group of capacitors of a power electronic device, such as a multilevel power inverter, includes making a balancing determination regarding whether to (i) inject energy into the selected one of the capacitors from an energy storage element, or (ii) extract energy from the selected one of the capacitors into the energy storage element based on the voltage of a selected one of the capacitors, and either injecting energy into the selected one of the capacitors from the energy storage element, or extracting energy from the selected one of the capacitors into the energy storage element based on the balancing determination. Also, a voltage balancing circuit that implements the method. In one particular implementation, a spatial second derivative algorithm is used. In another particular implementation, a comparison to an average capacitor voltage is used.

A method of driving a number of series connected active power semiconductor groups, wherein each of the active power semiconductor groups includes one or more gate oxide-isolated active power semiconductor devices. The method includes generating a current pulse, providing the current pulse to a primary portion of a transformer unit and in response thereto causing a number of reflected current pulses to be reflected at a secondary portion of the transformer unit, and transferring and latching each of the reflected current pulses to create a respective latched gate drive signal, and providing each respective latched gate drive signal to an associated one of the active power semiconductor groups for driving the one or more gate oxide-isolated active power semiconductor devices of the associated one of the active power semiconductor groups.
