A rotatable cutting tool () includes a cutting tool body () having an axial forward end () and an axial rearward end (). A bolster () at least partially received in a head portion () and includes a convex-shaped head portion () with a socket (), a collar portion () and a tapered shank portion (). The socket () is formed with a substantially planar side wall (), a bottom wall (), and a radius blend (). A hard tip or cutting insert () is at least partially received in the socket () of the bolster () and includes a convex-shaped conical head portion (), a collar portion () and an axially-rearward portion () that generally conforms to the geometry of the socket () of the bolster (). Between about sixty percent (60%) and about ninety percent (90%) of the cutting insert () is received in the socket () of the bolster (), thereby reducing forces and stresses transmitted to the cutting tool () during a machining operation.

A mounting assembly adapted for attachment to a surface of a rotatable driving member of a cutting tool machine and adapted for receiving a cutting tool includes: a base having a bottom portion for attachment to the surface of the rotatable driving member and a front portion that defines a bore; and a tool holder configured for mounting to the base. The tool holder includes: a leading head region having a forward face that defines an aperture for receiving the cutting tool; a trailing shank region with a central longitudinal axis and having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end; and a mediate region intermediate of and contiguous with the leading head region and the trailing shank region. The trailing shank region includes an anti-rotation portion and a mounting retention portion.

A block for use in a cutting assembly wherein the block includes a block body that contains a reservoir with coolant therein. The block body contains a top passage operative communication with the reservoir so as to receive coolant. The top passage has an axial forward top passage section terminating in an axial forward top passage end. The axial forward top passage section has an axial forward top passage section central longitudinal axis. The top passage further has an axial rearward top passage section terminating in an axial rearward top passage end. The axial rearward top passage section has axial rearward top passage section central longitudinal axis. The axial forward top passage section central longitudinal axis is disposed at an angle with respect to the axial rearward top passage section central longitudinal axis.

A cutting tool mounting assembly adapted for attachment to a surface of a rotatable driving member of a cutting tool machine, includes: a tool holder having a key shank; a base attached to the surface of the rotatable driving member, the base having a mounting groove for receiving the key shank of the tool holder; a resilient retention structure configured to interact with the base and the tool holder to facilitate a friction fit between the tool holder and the base; and wherein tool holder includes a retention post configured for cooperating with the base for connecting the tool holder to the base. Also included is a dampening element configured between the tool holder and the base for reducing vibration therebetween.
