A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') impedes locomotion of a human target by providing a stimulus signal through the target via one or more electrodes. A propulsion system provides a force that launches the one or more electrodes toward the target to deliver the stimulus signal. The electrodes may be mechanically and electrically coupled to a deployment unit by a filament. An electrode may cooperate with a winding machine to wind the filament into a winding. The winding may be positioned inside the body of the electrode for deployment during launch.

A system for a practice electrode (e.g. dart) for a conducted electrical weapon ('CEW'). An officer issued a CEW is required to practice with the CEW in order to maximize its safe and effective use in a stressful situation. Preferably, training is performed using equipment as similar as possible to the equipment an officer uses in the field. Training with a CEW against a live target may be improved, at least from the perspective of the target, by using a practice dart that is similar in weight and flight to a conventional electrode, but that does not pierce target clothing or tissue or deliver a high voltage current through the target. A practice dart may be similar to a conventional electrode but include additional structure (e.g. cap) that prevents piercing. The additional structure and/or a non-conductive filament may reduce a likelihood of or preclude delivery a current through the target.

Systems and methods for a dart for a conducted electrical weapon

A conducted electrical weapon ('CEW') impedes locomotion of a human or animal target by providing a stimulus signal through one or more electrodes and through the target. The CEW includes a handle and one or more removable deployment units coupled to the handle. A deployment unit may include a wad, a tensioner, a guide, and posts to improve accuracy of launch of electrodes form the deployment unit.

A cartridge for coupling to a conducted electrical weapon to launch electrodes toward a target to provide a current through the target to impede locomotion of the target. The cartridge includes a cover that covers a forward portion of the cartridge. The cover may be over molded on the forward portion of the cartridge. The cover includes a frangible portion. The frangible portion may surround the perimeter of a door or be positioned between flaps. The frangible portion may be broken to separate the door from the cover or to disengage the flaps so they can move. The electrode may launch through a door opening or between the flaps to travel toward the target.

A CEW includes a handle and one or more cartridges. A cartridge may cooperate with the handle to launch one or more electrodes. Launched electrodes fly toward the target to couple to the target to provide a stimulus signal through the target to impede locomotion of the target. Prior to launch, detents may retain an electrode in a bore of the cartridge. The bore may be sealed with a door. Launching the electrode may remove the door from the cartridge. The door may couple to the electrode. The door may remain coupled to the electrode during flight and impact of the electrode with the target. The door may cushion the impact of the electrode against the target. Cushioning the impact may reduce the likelihood of injuring the target. Retaining the door coupled to the electrode during flight may improve the flight characteristics of the electrode.

An actuatable bay conducted electrical weapon comprises a plurality of bays. Each of the bays is configured to releasably receive a deployment unit comprising one or more electrodes. At least one of the bays the plurality of bays is coupled to a body of the conducted electrical weapon via a respective movable member. Each respective movable member is coupled to the body of the conducted electrical weapon by a respective kinematic joint. Responsive to an activation of a control interface, each respective movable member is configured to move about each respective kinematic joint to an expanded position, wherein a distance between each of the bays of the plurality of bays is greater in the expanded position than in a collapsed position. The increased distance is configured to provide a greater initial spread between the one or more electrodes to increase a likelihood of causing NMI in a target.
