A method and apparatus for analyzing a dirty camera lens to determine if the dirty camera lens causes a failure to detect various events is provided herein. During operation, a filter is created that, when applied to previously-recorded video, mimics a dirty camera lens currently existing on a camera. The filter can then be applied to video taken previously with the camera as a result of an event being detected. The video analytics to detect the event are run again on the filtered video to see if the event is again detected. If the event was detected in both the filtered and unfiltered video, it is assumed that the particular event can still be detected even with the dirty lens. If the results differ, an alert can be sent to an operator indicating that the camera may no longer be capable of detecting the particular event.

A device, system, and method for altering video streams to identify objects of interest is provided. A devices analyzes: media data to determine one or more visual traits of an object-of-interest (OOI); and a first video stream to determine that the visual trait(s) are not identifiable at the first video stream, the first video stream being rendered at a display screen. The device identifies at least one of the visual trait(s) at a second video stream to identify the OOI at the second video stream, the second video stream associated with the first video stream. The device identifies the OOI at the first video stream using the OOI as identified in the second video stream. The device alters the first video stream at the display screen to visually indicate one or more of: the and at least one of visual trait(s) identified at the second video stream.

Monitoring systems and methods for identifying an object of interest after the object of interest has undergone a change in appearance. One example provides an image sensor is configured to monitor a first area. A first electronic processor is configured to detect a first appearance of an object of interest within the first area, and determine a visual characteristic of the object of interest. The first electronic processor is configured to receive a first notification indicative of movement of the object of interest into a second area and an access input, and associate the visual characteristic of the object of interest with the access input. The first electronic processor is configured to detect a second appearance of the object of interest within the first area, and update the visual characteristic of the object of interest based on the second appearance of the object of interest.

Monitoring system and method for identifying a changed object of interest using an access control system

A method and apparatus for operating a camera is provided herein. During operation a camera having pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) capabilities will have its field of view (FOV) moved such that any detected blemish on the camera lies over an area with low activity (i.e., a low history of detected motion). More particularly, when it has been determined that a blemish or blemish resides on a camera's lens, a heat map of activity within the current FOV is determined. More active areas of the FOV are marked as 'hot', while less active areas of activity are marked as “cold”. The camera is then aligned such that the dirty portion of the lens does not align with any “hot” part of the heat map.

A method and system for profiling a reference image and an object-of-interest therewithin is disclosed. The method includes storing semantic metadata that provides semantic information about environments for respective areas covered by respective Fields Of View (FOVs) of video cameras. The method also includes comparing the semantic metadata to additional metadata corresponding to at least one of an object accessory and a non-permanent object facet to identify a subset of the video cameras, less than an entire video camera universe, that meet a similarity score condition.

An indication is received from the smart building controller when the at least one object is currently needed, indicating the status of the at least one object.

A process for tagging incident data captured by non-public-safety agency controlled cameras. In operation, an electronic computing device detects an occurrence of an incident and obtains an incident identifier associated with the incident. The electronic computing device determines that a non-public-safety agency controlled camera is available for capturing incident data corresponding to the incident. The electronic computing device then controls a public-safety agency controlled internet-of-things (IoT) infrastructure deployed at an incident location to emit a signal including one of an audible signal, visible signal, or a combination of audible and visible signals to enable the non-public-safety agency controlled camera to tag incident data using the emitted signal. The electronic computing device links a unique tag representing the emitted signal to the incident identifier. The electronic computing device then searches the incident data captured by the non-public-safety agency controlled camera using the unique tag representing the emitted signal.
