Various methods and systems are provided for a radial turbocharger. In one example, the turbocharger comprises a turbine case housing a turbine wheel and a compressor case housing a compressor wheel, the turbine case including a vaneless turbine nozzle integrated into the turbine case, a bearing case surrounding a shaft connecting the turbine wheel to the compressor wheel and arranged between the turbine case and compressor case, a plurality of long bolts arranged around a circumference of the turbine case, and a plurality of slots arranged around a circumference of the turbine case, a slot length of each slot extending in a radial direction and adapted to receive a dowel pin having a diameter smaller than the slot length, where each dowel pin, via a corresponding slot, couples the bearing case to the turbine case.

Systems for a turbocharger

Various systems and methods are provided for a turbocharger system. In one example, a system for use with a power generator having a rotary machine including a combustor comprises: a heat exchanger positioned to receive exhaust gases from the combustor; and a turbocharger system, comprising: a low pressure compressor fluidly coupled to the heat exchanger and adapted to supply gases to the heat exchanger; a low pressure turbine and a high pressure turbine each fluidly coupled to the heat exchanger and adapted to receive gases from the heat exchanger; a high pressure compressor fluidly coupled to the rotary machine and the low pressure compressor, adapted to receive gases from the low pressure compressor and supply compressed air to the rotary machine; and a water injector adapted to inject water into a flow path between the low pressure compressor and the heat exchanger.

Systems and methods for increasing power output in a waste heat driven air Brayton cycle turbocharger system

Various systems and methods are provided for a turbocharger system. In one example, system for use with a power generator having a rotary machine including a combustor comprises: a heat exchanger positioned to receive exhaust gases from the combustor; and a turbocharger system, comprising: a low pressure turbocharger including a low pressure turbine adapted to receive gas flow from the heat exchanger and a low pressure compressor adapted to supply compressed air to the heat exchanger; a high pressure turbocharger including a high pressure turbine adapted to receive gas flow from the heat exchanger and a high pressure compressor adapted to receive gas flow from the low pressure compressor and supply compressed air to the rotary machine; and a second combustor adapted to inject exhaust gases into a flow path arranged between the heat exchanger and an inlet to each of the high pressure turbine and the low pressure turbine.

Systems and methods are provided for a waste heat-driven turbocharger system. In one example, a system for use with a power generator having a rotary machine including a combustor and an exhaust passage flowing exhaust gases from the combustor comprises: a heat exchanger positioned in the exhaust passage; and a turbocharger system, comprising: at least one low pressure turbocharger including a low pressure turbine coupled to an outlet of the heat exchanger and a low pressure compressor coupled to an inlet of the heat exchanger; at least one mid-pressure turbocharger including a mid-pressure turbine coupled to the outlet and a mid-pressure compressor coupled to the low pressure compressor; and at least one high pressure turbocharger including a high pressure turbine arranged in series or parallel with the mid-pressure turbine and a high pressure compressor arranged in series with the mid-pressure compressor and coupled to the combustor of the rotary machine.

Systems and method for a waste heat-driven turbocharger system

Various methods and systems are provided for an axial turbine including a containment shroud. In one example, an axial turbine for use in an engine system comprises a turbine disc/blisk and a shroud housing the turbine disc/blisk, the shroud including a first region, a second region, and a third region. A thickness of the second region is dependent on a length between the first region and the third region, and the third region has a burst strength that under a burst condition retains one or more fragments of the turbine disc/blisk.

Various systems and apparatuses are provided for a fluid transfer system for an engine. In one example, a system includes a first turbine having an exit for discharging a main fluid flow and a second turbine having an inlet for receiving at least a portion of the main fluid flow. A main conduit fluidically couples the exit of the first turbine to the inlet of the second turbine. A transition conduit is coupled with the main conduit and includes a volute passageway curving around the main conduit. The volute passageway includes a slot that follows a route around the curving volute passageway and opens into an interior of the main conduit. The slot is defined at least in part by a lip and establishes a path for either a secondary fluid flow to enter the main conduit or a portion of a main fluid flow to exit the main conduit.

Turbocharger

Various apparatuses and systems are provided for a turbocharger. In one example, the turbocharger system includes a first turbine having an exhaust flow outlet and a second turbine having an exhaust flow inlet. The turbocharger system further includes a transition conduit fluidically coupling the outlet of the first turbine to the inlet of the second turbine, the transition conduit including an expansion region upstream of a first bend, and a bypass which routes exhaust flow around the first turbine, the bypass having an exhaust flow outlet fluidically coupled to the transition conduit downstream of the expansion region.

Systems and apparatus for transferring fluid flow

An exemplary turbocharger system for an internal combustion engine is provided. The turbocharger system includes a first turbine and a second turbine. The first turbine is in fluid communication with the internal combustion engine. The first turbine receives a first portion exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine and provides a first turbine exhaust gas. The second turbine is in fluid communication with the first turbine via an inter-stage channel. The inter-stage channel transports the first turbine exhaust gas from the first turbine to the second turbine. The inter-stage channel is in thermal connection with an exhaust gas recirculation channel defined between an inlet and an outlet of the internal combustion engine. The first turbine exhaust gas flowing through the inter-stage channel is capable of being heated by a second portion exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine and flowing through the exhaust gas recirculation channel.

A fragment containment assembly for a turbine is provided. The fragment containment assembly includes a plurality of bands disposed around a shroud of the turbine and positioned such that the shroud is disposed between blades of the turbine and the bands along radial directions outwardly extending from a shaft of the turbine. The bands include a material having a first modulus of toughness parameter that is greater than a second modulus of toughness parameter of the shroud at temperatures of at least 260 degrees Celsius. The bands are disposed around the shroud to prevent debris of the turbine from being released outside of the bands along the radial directions caused by failure of the turbine.

Fragment containment assembly and method for adding a fragment containment assembly to a turbine

A turbocharger is disclosed that includes a compressor, a turbine connected to the compressor by a mechanical shaft, and a fluidic drain valve in flow communication with an air bleed port of the compressor and an exhaust plenum to drain water accumulated inside the turbocharger such that water accumulated in the exhaust plenum is drained during shutdown when no air from the bleed port flows through the fluidic drain valve.
