A method of producing an infrared lamp for a vehicle night vision system, where the lamp has a tube which surrounds a radiation source that emits infrared radiation and light radiation. The tube has an infrared-transmitting coating. By setting specific process parameters in the coating process and/or by post-treating the coated tube, holes are formed in an irregular arrangement in the coating. The holes have at least in some areas a defined average size and a defined average surface density.

Method of producing an infrared lamp

A lamp, containing &#x2266;100 ppm Hg, includes a burner chamber having an axis, the axis having a section &#x2267;0.05 mm. The burner chamber has a recess oriented toward a light arc produced in the burning chamber to suppress arc curvature. The lamp has an arc-luminescence profile of luminescence (measured in cd/m)/mm with an average slope over that section which is &#x2267;|300,000,000| (cd/m)/mm. Preferably, the profile maximum value is &#x2267;90,000,000 cd/m. In one embodiment, the arc-making device includes two electrodes disposed for producing the light arc across their two tips, the depth of the recess being sufficiently small so as not to extend between the two tips.

Lamp with improved lamp profile

A lamp radiates visible light and infrared light. The lamp bulb of the lamp includes at least a first region which is at least partly permeable to infrared light, and at least partly impermeable to visible light. At least a second region of the bulb is wholly or partly permeable at least to visible light.

Lamp emitting visible and IR light

A lamp for night sight applications includes a bulb that transmits both visible and infrared light. The lamp also includes a coating that reflects middle infrared radiation and is transparent to near infrared radiation to increase output efficiency in the near infrared spectral range. There may be a second coating that blocks visible light on part of the lamp&#x2014;and the second coating may be on an external bulb, while the first coating is on an internal bulb. The lamp is preferably used as a vehicle headlamp with a reflector that reflects near infrared radiation and is transparent to visible light. The second coating and reflector may be on the lower part of the lamp.
