An assembly of a mounting support and an optical fibre connector adaptor () mounted on the support, wherein the adaptor has a connector-receiving axis and at least one lateral (to the said axis) mounting projection () on at least a first one of its sides, and the mounting support comprises wall members (not necessarily flat or continuous) upstanding from the support on both sides of the said adaptor, which wall members on at least one side of the adaptor define mounting slots adapted to receive the said mounting projections of the adaptor, and wherein the slots are formed to permit movement of the adaptor between at least a first position in which the adaptor is supported with its said axis at an acute angle to the support, and a working position in which the adaptor is supported with its said axis lying substantially parallel to the support, and wherein the wall members define, in at least one of the said slots, at least one shoulder () on which one of the mounting projections () of the adaptor can be supported, and at least one resilient portion () of the wall member is arranged to retain that mounting projection removably on the said shoulder.

Positioning of adaptors for optical connectors

An optical fiber connector for forming a mechanical splice between first and second optical fibers comprises a connector body arranged to clamp the optical fibers therein, wherein the connector body is configured to be at least partially opened to release, or to allow insertion of, at least one of the optical fibers by a squeezing action applied to the connector body.

A device for cleaving an optical fibre includes a fixing mechanism to fix a fixing element to the optical fibre, and a cleaving mechanism to cleave the optical fibre. The fixing element may be a ferrule, and the fixing element may be fixed to the fibre such that the fibre extends through the fixing element. The cleaving mechanism cleaves the fibre preferably when the fixing element has been fixed to the fibre. The cleaving device may be a hand-held, and hand-operated, tool. The device may enable the possibility of automatic preset positioning and/or orienting of the cleaved fibre end face (which may be angled to the axis of the fibre) with respect to the fixing element. Attachments may be provided for holding the fibre and fixing element during the cleaving operation and for holding a connector body while the fixing element with the cleaved fibre is inserted into the connector.

Device for cleaving an optical fibre

Detent devices for optical fibre members have an outer casing member with a tapered aperture in which an inner engagement member is slidably fitted. A strength member of the optical fibre member received in the inner engagement member can be wrapped back around a boss of the inner engagement member and is clamped by the slidable engagement member when the optical fibre member is pulled. Thus axial strain relief is provided.

A telecommunications splice case comprises a flexible sheet that can be wrapped around the splice and optionally further surrounded by a rigid casing. The sheet has a heat-activatable sealing material at its edge and an electrical heater for activation.

Cable splice case

A technique for protecting an optical fibre breakout particularly from a cable 1 comprising a core 2, a plurality of loose fibres 3 and a jacket 5. The jacket 5 and core 2 are stripped back and the fibres encased in protective tubes 7. This may be done one fibre at a time by removing a portion of cable jacket remote from the end and withdrawing each fibre from under the remaining end portion of jacket. The cable may be held in a holding tool and the fibres inserted into their protective tubes by means of an insertion tool.

Optical fibre breakout

A branch-off between elongate substrates, such as cables, is enclosed by a recoverable sleeve. A clip is positioned over an edge portion of the conduits for the substrates. The clip comprises a tubular body having circumferentially spaced apart slits, within which the end portions of the sleeve is received.
