An apparatus and mechanism to manage multi-modal real-time or quasi real-time sessions such as voice, video, instant messaging, or web-conferencing across multiple devices through a simple subscription to a session management service. A user can subscribe to the service from many devices (e.g. mobile device, desk phone, personal computer, internet appliance, internet TV, communication terminal, etc.) and through the service seamlessly move sessions back and forth between subscribed devices. In a preferred embodiment, a user utilizes a 'virtual slider' in a simple “two touch” procedure to effectuate the movement of a communication session from one device to another device via the service.

Method and apparatus for controlling sessions from one or more devices

An apparatus and mechanism to manage multi-modal real-time or quasi real-time sessions such as voice, video, instant messaging, or web-conferencing across multiple devices through a simple subscription to a session management service. A communications system and method of managing communications with multiple appearance endpoints, e.g. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) endpoints in the communications system. At least one SIP endpoint includes a keyset with multiple lines, at least a primary line and one or more secondary and/or phantom lines. A Back to Back User Agent (B2BUA) manages communications with the SIP endpoints and multiple (e.g., all) line appearances register in a single REGISTER message sent by the primary line to the B2BUA. The B2BUA sends NOTIFY messages for any incoming call and once the call is answered sends an INVITE message to the answering endpoint. The B2BUA includes a media negotiator that negotiates early media with the SIP endpoints upon an indication of a pending call, incoming or outgoing.

Telecommunications system and method of session initiation protocol (SIP) based communications between endpoints

Devices, systems and methods that generate and test network traffic are disclosed. The exemplary method may include transmitting one or more requests to generate network testing traffic to one or more endpoints, generating network testing traffic from one or more endpoints, and collecting network testing traffic data. Additional aspects of the method may also include transmitting one or more requests to receive network testing traffic to one or more endpoints and receiving network testing traffic by one or more endpoints that received the request to receive network traffic. The devices, systems and methods may provide additional security measures, operational controls and other aspects as discussed later herein.

Systems and methods for testing a network

A method and system based in part on a current network traffic determination and a predetermined acceptable Quality of Service parameter, the system sets a current state of available system services. In order to set the available system services, the apparatus refers to a database containing a listing of services for a given network. The database includes a hierarchy of the services correlated to the amount of bandwidth necessary to provide a given service. The determination is made by the apparatus, as to whether the amount bandwidth necessary to provide a particular type of service would degrade the QoS below an acceptable level if the service was provided on the network at the time of the determination. If degradation would occur, the service is made unavailable until the traffic level subsides to a point at which providing the service would not have an adverse affect on the QoS the network.

Traffic control in an internet protocol network

A virtual private communications network (VPCN) and method of using the VPCN. The VPCN includes a communications server and at least one communications trunk connecting the communications server to a public telephone network. A web server and one or more digital telephones may be connected to the communications server. A remotely connected device (such as a PC or WAP) communicating with the communications server acts as a locally connected digital telephone. A remote telephone located in the vicinity of the remotely connected device provides telephonic communications in cooperation with the communications server controlled by the remotely connected device.

Private communications network including connected public communications devices and method of operation thereof

A method and program product for handling communications with stations in communications systems, especially digital telecommunications systems, such as for VoIP telephony. Requests are received for communicating with communications stations in the communications system. Each request is forwarded to a respective communications system station, which returns an indication of an intended response. Depending upon whether the intended response is appropriate, the proposed response may be forwarded to the requester. Otherwise, if the intended response is determined inappropriate, an indication is returned to the communications system station that the intended response is inappropriate.

Handling communications between stations in a digital telecommunications system

A system and method is presented for the restricting features in a wireless network. A database contains representations of rules that restrict the features of terminals connected to a base station. For an incoming communication, a determination is made as to which terminal is associated with the call, and a database is accessed to look up rules governing restrictions on the terminal and/or the base station connected to the terminal; the terminal is then activated depending on the restrictions. For outgoing communication, when a signal associated with a request for an outgoing communication is received from a terminal, a database is accessed to look up rules governing restrictions; the terminal is connected for outgoing communication depending on whether the restrictions allow it.

System and method for inhibiting features for wireless terminals

A system and method for accessing complex computer based systems initiates a trace and debug session via IP causing the resulting output to be stored in a designated remote server on the Internet which can accept large amounts of information. The trace and debug information subsequently can be accessed from any engineering workstation or personal computer from any other location via the Internet. The invention permits the trace sessions to run independent of any local access and permits several technical people in different locations to access the remote storage server simultaneously or independently.

A communications network connected to a plurality of communications lines and method of managing connections to the network. The presence of an interface connection to a communications line is detected and initialized for signaling. First, the interface connection is initialized for a first signaling protocol, e.g., CCS. If initialization is successful, the connection uses that first signaling protocol. If not, the interface connection is initialized using a second signaling protocol, e.g., CAS. If initialization to the second protocol is successful, the connection uses that second signaling protocol. Otherwise an error message is returned.

Method of automatic signaling detection for a high speed communications link

Methods for enabling a non-DID station of a PBX or MLTS to receive a PSAP call back include assigning a special DID number for use by non-DID stations behind the PBX/MLTS, detecting when a non-DID station dials an emergency number, storing the station number of the non-DID station which dialed the emergency number, setting an emergency flag and a countdown timer, forwarding the special DID to the PSAP, detecting a call to the DID, routing the call to the DID to the stored station number so long as the timer has not expired, and dropping the emergency flag when the timer expires. An apparatus according to the invention includes a PBX switch coupled to a number of local stations, at least some of which are non-DID stations. The PBX preferably includes a processor, software, and storage registers. The PBX software is modified to carry out the methods described above.
