The present invention is related to a system and method to ensure the reproducibility of the position of the feet and lower parts of the legs during Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) studies, and to obtain robust quantitative information through the time. The system includes a device that is inserted into the radiofrequency coils of any MRI equipment. The device includes a foot support section, a leg support section and a base adapted to allow that the abovementioned sections be fixed in it. With this device and method, and through external and internal markers, quantitative studies of the evolution of pathophysiological phenomena that affect the anatomy and physiology of the feet and lower parts of the legs are performed.

The present invention is relevant to human medicine, and, in particular, to the use of Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) in a pharmaceutical composition, said composition is administered through infiltration at the periphery of nerve trunks and/or ganglia, for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful, sensory-motor neuropathy, as well as ischemic neuritis. It is also relevant to an EGF containing composition, where this molecule can be formulated together with anesthetic or analgesic drugs, or encapsulated in microspheres, and their use for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful, sensory-motor neuropathy, as well as in ischemic neuritis.

Use of epidermal growth factor for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in diabetic neuropathy

The invention relates to human medicine and to the use of epidermal growth factor (EGF) for preparing a pharmaceutical composition which is administered by infiltration into the periphery of nerve ganglia and/or trunks for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful sensory-motor neuropathy as well as manifestations of ischemic neuritis. The invention also includes a composition containing EGF which can be formulated together with anesthetics or analgesics or encapsulated in microspheres and to the use thereof for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful sensitive-motor-type diabetic neuropathy and the manifestations of ischemic neuritis.

The invention relates to the use of Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) in a preferably-injectable pharmaceutical composition which is administered by means of infiltration into and around chronic cutaneous ischaemic lesions in order to prevent diabetic foot amputation. Said composition can be administered to recently-created surgical surfaces damaged by the effect of acute reperfusion with oxygenated blood following prolonged ischaemia, thereby preventing further surgical procedures and favoring the preservation of the extremity. The aforementioned composition can be used to improve (i) the cell microenvironment, thereby increasing the reparative and defensive capacity and viability of the is tissues and (ii) the cicatrization of cutaneous ischaemic lesions, thereby stimulating cell proliferation. The invention is suitable for use in human, veterinary and experimental medicine, specifically in vascular angiology and surgery, dermatology, burn treatment and reconstructive surgery and geriatric medicine. Said composition can be used for recalcitrant ulcers which are associated with lesions in the macro and/or microvasculature, patients with inadequate lymphatic and/or venous return and ulcers or other lesions which are difficult to cicatrize and/or heal.

Use of pharmaceutical composition containing epidermal growth factor (EGF) for diabetic foot amputation prevention

A method for the isolation and expression of a gene coding for dextranase of the fungus Penicillium minioluteum. This enzyme of fungal origin is produced by expression at high levels in yeast. For this purpose, a cDNA copy of the mRNA coding for dextranase enzyme of the Penicillium minioluteum fungus was isolated and sequenced. This cDNA was transfered into Pichia pastoris cells. Recombinant yeasts capable of secreting dextranase to the culture medium were obtained thereby. The dextranase enzyme obtained can be used, e.g. in the sugar industry to hydrolyze the dextran in cane juices to increase the sugar production.
