A method to control cell selection and/or re-selection in a communication system comprising a plurality of cells with which terminal devices may communicate, the method including the steps of: determining that a terminal device is to start a session for a certain service, the service using a reception frequency; based on that determination, changing at least one cell selection and/or re-selection parameter in respect of the terminal device with the effect that a subsequent cell selection and/or re-selection performed by the device would favor cells that use the reception frequency used in the service session over other cells.

Apparatus, computer program products and methods allow inclusion and segmentation of multiple SDUs within a PDU, and generate information (such as header information) necessary to identify, e.g., the position of the segmented SDUs within the PDU. Prior knowledge of the typically used (i.e., predetermined) SDU size is used to perform segmentation operations, hi one exemplary variant, apparatus, methods and computer program products determine if a particular one of a set of input data units (SDUs) is to be segmented in order to fit a portion of the set, including a segment of the particular input data unit, into an output data unit (PDU); segment the input data unit in response to determining the particular input data unit is to be segmented; add the portion of the set to a data portion of the output data unit, and add into the output data unit an indication of a position of the segment in the data portion. In another variant, apparatus, computer program products and methods receive first data units, each of the first data units including a plurality of data portions having a plurality of second data units, each of at least two of the first data units including an indication of a position of a segment of a second data unit in associated ones of the data portions; combine using at least the indications the segments to create a complete second data unit; and output the complete second data unit.

Apparatus, computer program product, and methods for flexible data unit segmentation and arrangement

Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for facilitating allocation of a common resource to a terminal. A method may include transmitting one or more inbound packet data units including an indication of a category of a terminal and an indication of an identity of the terminal to a network node responsible for managing allocation of a common resource to the terminal. The method may further include receiving an absolute grant of a portion of the common resource to the terminal, wherein the absolute grant is issued by the network node based at least in part upon the transmitted indication of the category of the terminal. Corresponding systems and apparatuses are also provided.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for facilitating allocation of a common resource to a terminal

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate security in response to a handover from an initial network to a subsequent network, such as a handover between a packet-switched network and a circuit-switched network. The method, apparatus and computer program product may provide at least one security key for use in the subsequent network following handover from the initial network such that communications conducted via the subsequent network, including initial communications, may be secure. In order to provide at least one security key for use in the subsequent network, at least one security key of the initial network may be identified along with a nonce in response to a determination that a handover is to be made. The at least one security key of the subsequent network may then be determined based upon the at least one security key of the initial network and the nonce.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for providing security during handover between a packet-switched network and a circuit-switched network

A user equipment UE obtains channel configurations from each of a serving cell and n neighbor cells which have been determined to be suitable for data communications with the UE, from which the UE creates a combined channel configuration and utilizes it for multipoint communications with those cells. In specific embodiments: the respective channel configurations are obtained from the respective cells' system information; the n neighbor cells are determined to be suitable by the UE comparing each cell's received signal strength/quality against a threshold. The UE may get a neighbor cell list NCL and the threshold and consider each cell on the NCL as one of the n neighbor cells if its signal strength/quality exceed the threshold, then the UE may acquire system information for only those n neighbor cells instead of all cells on the NCL. The UE then reports in uplink signaling that the n neighbor cells are suitable.

Common channel configuration for multipoint communications

An apparatus detects, over multiple transfers, an amount of data transferred to/from a network per transfer and/or an amount of time elapsed between transfers; and based at least on the detecting, the apparatus decides whether to trigger an early release from the network in order to at least reduce power consumption in the apparatus, where the decision is made in consideration of at least one configuration aspect of the network. In specific embodiments, the decision is made in consideration of availability and/or suitability of the power saving feature and configuration support in the network, which may be re-detected periodically; re-detection occurs after cell mobility, and/or network access element mobility and/or network control element mobility. An amount of useful data transfer per length of each connection for recent transfers can trigger the decision. Deactivating an early release may be based only on an amount of time that elapses between the transfers.

Mobile equipment autonomous quick release detection

A method and equipment by which a radio access network of a wireless network communicates to a user equipment wireless communication device an indication that the user equipment is to flush one or more send buffers. A flag is included in a message to indicate that the one or more send buffers are to be flushed. The message is for example a message indicating reconfiguration is to be performed, and the flag (if set) is to be interpreted by the user equipment as indicating that the one or more send buffers are to be flushed prior to performing the reconfiguration. A corresponding method and equipment for a user equipment wireless communication device are also provided.
