An elevator safety gear assembly includes a base plate having a guiding component. Also included is a first engagement member operatively coupled to the base plate and configured to be positioned on a first side of a guide rail. Further included is a second engagement member operatively coupled to the base plate and configured to be positioned on a second side of a guide rail. Yet further included is a connector operatively coupled to the first engagement member and the second engagement member for symmetric movement of the first engagement member and the second engagement member relative to the guide rail, the connector having a guiding element disposed in engagement with the guiding component of the base plate.

Elevator safety gear guiding assembly and method

A governor includes a housing, a pulley, a belt, a first flyweight, and second flyweight. The housing defines a housing cavity. The pulley is disposed at least partially within the housing cavity. The belt is in contact with the pulley. The belt is operable to rotate the pulley at a rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are pivotably connected to the pulley, and are biased towards one another. At least a portion of the first and second flyweights are operable to move away from the pulley when the rotational speed of the pulley is increasing toward a predetermined threshold rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are operable to contact the housing, and thereby transmit rotational energy to the housing, when the rotational speed of the pulley is equal to at least the predetermined threshold rotational speed.

A mechanism for use in an elevator governor assembly including a ground configured to rotate about a ground axis, three or more circumferentially overlapping cams each pivotally attached to the ground at one of three or more ground pivot points radially spaced from the ground axis, and a plurality of links pivotally attaching the three or more cams to one another at a plurality of link pivot points. The circumferentially overlapping cams form a substantially contiguous circular ring about the ground axis. The interconnection of the ground, the cams, and the links form a generally circular mechanism.

A combined elevator guiding and braking device () includes movable members () positioned symmetrically about opposite sides of guide rail (). Guide members () are supported on the movable members () for following along the guide rail () under normal elevator system operation. When a safety braking function is required, braking members () engage the surfaces on the guide rail () when the movable members () move into a second operating position to achieve the braking function. The inventive arrangement integrates the car guiding and safety braking functions into a single device.
